Cardinals manager Mike Matheny is impressed with Lance Lynn's steady improvement in spring training. Lance Lynn delivered what was easily his best outing of spring training and three relievers made a first-inning run stand up for the St. Louis Cardinals in a 1-0 victory over the Miami Marlins on Thursday. Lynn allowed only two hits in six innings while striking out five. He retired the final 14 batters he faced. ''Lance Lynn was nasty,'' Matheny said. ''He got better every single start. He's got a little edge now to him. A lot of it comes from people second-guessing his offseason workout. Good. I hope he carries it for a long time.'' Edward Mujica, Trevor Rosenthal and Mitchell Boggs combined to allow only one hit over the final three innings to seal the victory and ensure that the Cardinals (16-14), who have one Grapefruit League game remaining, will finish with a winning record. The Cardinals jumped to the lead in the first inning again...

Cards look to build off last October's near-miss

One more win. After again hitting their stride in October, the St. Louis Cardinals got tantalizingly close to making it back to the World Series. Instead, three straight losses to San Francisco led to an agonizing offseason of what-ifs, and has served as a driving force all spring for a team deemed good enough to contend without any major roster upgrades. Adam Wainwright, now the...

Miami Marlins 2013 Season Preview

The Marlins enter the upcoming 2013 season with one real reason to watch: Giancarlo Stanton. This is akin to what the Marlins did after they won their World Series titles, especially in 1997. They purged and got rid of every name you’ve heard of. Out of all the young guys that get playing time this season, only a select few will dot the roster when this team is competitive again...
