It was a rough night for the Baby Birds as the teams’ combined for a 1-5 record. State College was the only winner and Memphis, Springfield, Peoria, Johnson City, and the GCL Cards lost. Palm Beach was rained out for the third straight night, second attempt at a double-header. In the upper minors, Chris Carpenter made his second rehab start and struggled. While the stats aren’t everything, Carpenter was not pleased after the game with his results. He would be scheduled to start again on Thursday, most likely in Memphis again. Cardinals fans should not get their hopes up regarding Carpenter. It was a long shot to begin with. Also for Memphis, Kolten Wong added a couple of hits and good defensive plays. Springfield was shut down by Royals’ top prospect Kyle Zimmer. Seth Blair was solid for 7 innings on the mound. In the lower minors, Jacob Wilson hit his 14th home run for Peoria and Ildemaro Vargas added 3 hits. Wilson appears to be turning the corner after a little slump. David Washington had a huge game for State College, crushing a grand slam in the 9th for the walk-off win. He also added 2 doubles. Carson Kelly had a hit and extends his hitting streak to 5 games. Kenneth Peoples-Walls had 3 hits including his fourth home run and second home run in as many games. Peoples-Walls is quickly becoming an intriguing prospect. The soon-to-be 20-year-old, is hitting .349 and has hit in 19 games out of the 25 games he has played. For the GCL Cards, Oscar Mercado had a hit to raise his average to .140.
