It was a 4-3 night for the Baby Birds as the lower minors carried the night. Memphis, Springfield, and Peoria were all shut out in losses. Palm Beach, State College, Johnson City, and the GCL Cards all won. Here is a quick game summary followed by official box scores of each game. Memphis was shutout by Iowa 2-0 on Friday. The Redbirds only managed 4 hits from Mike O’Neill, Chad Huffman, Greg Garcia, and Audry Perez. Eric Fornataro made the emergency start after Carlos Martinez was optioned to St. Louis. Fornataro allowed 2 runs on 3 hits over 4 innings with 4 strikeouts. Victor Marte and Michael Blazek each threw 2 scoreless innings in relief. Player of the Game: Victor Marte Box Score NW Arkansas rocked Springfield 12-0 on Friday. Ruben Gotay and Cody Stanley each had two hits in the loss. Colin Walsh also doubled. Anthony Ferrara allowed 4 runs on 7 hits over 4 1/3 innings. Heath Wyatt went 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. Danny Miranda and Zach Russell struggled in relief with Miranda allowing 5 run in 2/3 of an inning and Russell allowing 3 runs in 1 1/3 innings. Player of the Game: Heath Wyatt Box Score Palm Beach beats Bradenton 2-1 in 12 innings on Friday. Ronny Gil led the way for the Cards with 3 hits, and RBI, and a run scored. Anthony Garcia scored the winning run in the 12th inning. Ryan Sherriff was solid once again for Palm Beach. In 7 innings, Sherriff allowed 1 run on just 4 hits and struck out 4. Iden Nazario, Logan Billbrough, and Dean Kiekhefer combined for 5 scoreless relief innings with Kiekhefer picking up his 4th win. Player of the Game: Ryan Sherriff Box Score Peoria gets shut out by Burlington 3-0 on Friday. Trevor Martin led the way with 3 hits, including a double. C.J. McElroy, Breyvic Valera, Nick Martini, and Gerwuins Velazco all singled. Mike Mayers picked up his second loss while allowing 3 runs on 7 hits with 5 strikeouts over 6 innings. Steven Sabatino and Brady Adamek combined for 3 shutout innings in relief. Player of the Game: Trevor Martin Box Score State College beat Auburn 9-3 on Friday. Matthew Young hit his second home run in the 7th inning, it was a 3-run home run. Michael Schulze, Steven Ramos, and Carson Kelly each had 3 hits on the night with Ramos a home run away from the cycle. Schulze added 2 RBI’s. Nick Petree picked up his third win while allowing 1 run on 3 hits over 7 innings. Petree lowers his ERA to 1.08 on the season. Jeff Rauh closes out the game with 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. Player of the Game: Nick Petree Box Score Johnson City beat Burlington 9-4 on Friday. Kenneth Peoples-Walls led the way with 3 hits including his 7th home run in the 6th inning. Justin Ringo added 2 hits including his 6th home run. Richy Pedroza and Steve Bean each had 2 RBI’s. Ronnierd Garcia and J.J. Altobelli had 2 hits on the night as well. Alex Reyes had another very strong start allowing just 1 earned run on 3 hits over 5 innings.  Reyes did walk 5 but struck out 8 to pick up his 6th win. Player of the Game: Kenny Peoples-Walls Box Score The GCL Cards beat the GCL Marlins 6-2 on Friday. Leobaldo Pina led the way with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s. Anthony Ray, Oscar Mercado, and Ricardo Bautista each had 2 hits for the Cards. Dylan Hawkins picked up his third win with 5 shutout innings without allowing a hit.
