The Baby Birds had a successful 6-2 night on Tuesday as Memphis, Palm Beach (2), State College, Johnson City, and the GCL Cards all won. Springfield and Peoria were on the losing end. Here are quick game summaries followed by the official box score of each game. Memphis beat New Orleans 8-2 on Tuesday. Jamie Romak had a big day for the Redbirds collecting 4 hits, including his 22nd home run and 4 RBI’s. Chad Huffman hit his 12th home run in the 9th inning also. Ryan Jackson, Justin Christian, and Greg Garcia each had 2 hits as well. Boone Whiting picked up his 5th win allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and striking out 9 over 6 innings. Deryk Hooker threw 2 scoreless innings and Jorge Rondon closed it out with a scoreless 9th. Player of the Game: Jamie Romak Box Score Arkansas beat Springfield 8-4 on Tuesday. Stephen Piscotty led the way with 3 hits for the Cardinals, including his 6th home run for Springfield and his 15th total. Xavier Scruggs hit his 26th home run in the first inning, a 2-run home run. Colin Walsh hit his 2nd home run. Luis Mateo collected 2 hits as well. Tim Cooney falls to 7-9 on the season with 7 earned runs on 11 hits over 6 innings. Zach Russell finished the game with a scoreless 8th inning. Player of the Game: Stephen Piscotty Box Score Palm Beach beat Ft. Myers 5-4 on Tuesday in game 1 of a double-header. Nick Longmire and Jesus Montero each went deep for the Cardinals, it was Longmire’s 9th and Montero’s 3rd of the season. Patrick Wisdom collected 2 hits for the Beach Birds. Hector Hernandez allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits over 5 innings. Ronnie Shaban picked up his second win with a scoreless 1 1/3 innings pitched. Player of the Game: Jesus Montero Box Score In game 2, Palm Beach won 1-0 over Ft. Myers. Jonathan Rodriguez hit his 18th home run to provide all the offense that Joe Cuda would need. Cuda went 5 innings and allowed just 2 hits and struck out 5 while issuing 2 walks to pick up his 4th win and to lower his High-A ERA to 1.56. Thomas Lee, newly promoted to Palm Beach, tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief. Player of the Game: Joe Cuda Box Score Peoria lost to Cedar Rapids 4-2 on Tuesday to extend their losing streak. Bruce Caldwell and Juan Herrera each had 2 hits and Nick Martini had the lone RBI for the Chiefs. Silfredo Garcia picked up his 5th loss of the season, allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits over 6 innings. Brady Adamek threw a scoreless inning in relief of Garcia. Player of the Game: Silfredo Garcia Box Score State College beat Williamsport 5-3 in 11 innings on Tuesday. The Spikes scored 3 times in the 11th to win it. Steven Ramos collected 2 more hits and every other Spikes regular except David Washington had a hit. Brett Wiley drove in 2 runs. Arturo Reyes allowed just an earned run on 5 hits over 6 innings with 5 strikeouts. Jacob Booden picked up his 5th win of the season and Jeff Rauh his 5th save. Player of the Game: Steven Ramos Box Score Johnson City shutout Danville 2-0 on Tuesday. Kenneth Peoples-Walls and Devante Lacy had 2 hits each. Jhohan Acevedo drove in a run. Nick Lomascolo did not allow a run over 6 innings and issued just 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 8 to pick up his second win. Fernando Baez picked up his 6th save with a scoreless 9th inning. Player of the Game: Nick Lomascolo Box Score The GCL Cards beat the GCL Mets 11-6 on Tuesday thanks to 4 runs in the 8th and 4 runs in the 9th innings. Carlos Torres led the way with 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and 3 RBI’s. Oscar Mercado, Leobaldo Pina, Jose Godoy, and Ricardo Bautista each had 2 hits for the Cards. Juan Perez allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits over 5 innings in his start. Dewen Perez picked up his second with while allowing 2 runs on 4 hits over the last 4 innings.
