The Milwaukee Brewers have been nothing short of disappointing this season, but Carlos Gomez gave the Brew Crew and its fans something to smile about Monday night in Milwaukee. The Brewers center fielder made one of the plays of the year, especially when you consider the circumstance. With Milwaukee clinging to a one-run lead with a runner on and two outs in the ninth inning, feared slugger Joey Votto stepped to the plate. Votto got a pitch he could drive from Francisco Rodriguez and drive it he did. The Reds first baseman appeared to have struck it well enough for a go-ahead home run. He did hit it well enough to give the Reds the lead, but that still didn’t matter. Gomez raced back to the center-field fence and timed his leap just perfectly, as he skied to rob Votto of what would have been the go-ahead blast. The catch ended the game — a walk-off catch if you will — and gave the last-place Brewers a rare win. Check out the impressive grab in the video below.
