Junior Lake hit a grand slam this week but the Cubs still only won two of six this week. Rejoice Chicago sports fans, football has returned.  The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox are about three weeks away from completing a terrible baseball season and things only got worse on that front this week for the boys in blue. The Cubs lost both of their series’s this week against the woeful Miami Marlins and the dreadful Milwaukee Brewers.  All games were played at Wrigley Field which has been a house of horrors for the home team this year.  The Cubs currently are 29-46 in the old ballpark while 31-36 on the road. Monday’s barn burner against the Miami Marlins featured seven runs all scored in the first two innings and none to follow.  Marlins starter Henderson Alvarez belted a three run homer off of Travis Wood, effectively ending the game in the second inning.  Edwin Jackson surrendered three runs over five innings on Tuesday, while the Cubs only managed two runs for the game. Wednesday, however, was a great game for the Cubs offense, exploding for nine runs.  The Cubs smashed four home runs in the game, including a third inning bomb from Starlin Castro. Friday, the Ryan Braun-less Milwaukee Brewers came into town.  Cubs 23-year-old outfielder Junior Lake, blasted his first grand slam of his career as part of a five run first inning.  The Cubs ended up totaling eight runs to the Brewers five and carried the day. That was the end of Cubs victories for the week.  Saturday Cubs starter Jake Arrieta surrendered a two run Cub lead in the fourth inning in which the Brewers tallied four runs.  Sunday saw Cubs starter Scott Baker make his return from injury to make his first start of the season in which he pitched five innings of shut out ball.  Baker threw only 55 pitches before he was lifted in favor of the bullpen.  For Justin Grimm and James Russell, it was a day to forget as both relievers surrendered runs to the Brewers, resulting in Grimm being hooked for a 3 to 1 loss. Next week begins an 11 game road trip for the Cubs as they will visit Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Milwaukee.  Cincinnati and Pittsburgh are in the hunt for playoff spots so the Cubs have the opportunity to play spoiler.
