Dodgers-pitcher-kershaw
The Phillies welcomed Los Angeles to Citizens Bank Park with a soggy game one of a four-game series this evening. Vance Worley was limited to 75 pitches in his first start back from the DL with a sore elbow. He will pitch the remainder of the season with a bone chip, but that didn't stop him from pitching a strong four innings, considering his condition.  The Dodgers would take an early lead in a 32-pitch inning from Vance. Elian Herrera would score on a single from Juan Rivera, followed by a single from former Phillie Bobby Abreu which scored Andre Ethier.  Adam Kennedy was able to score on an infield single from the super speedy Dee Gordon, putting the Dodgers up 3-0. From the get-go, this looked like an inevitable loss. The best team in baseball with one of the best starters in the league taking the hill for LA; Clayton Kershaw. However, the Phillies showed a little bit of life in the third inning. After a double to deep left from John Mayberry, Freddy Galvis sent hi...

Minor Matters: Phillies' Michael Martinez Hits AAA for the First Time in His Career

Phillies IF/OF Michael Martinez was reinstated from the disabled list tonight and optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley.   This means behind him on the depth chart was: Hector Luna Pete Orr Mike Fontenot This makes me wonder: was it worth carrying Martinez all last year when he clearly is not better than  the collection of AAA castoffs the Phillies accumulated this offseason...

Phillies’ sellout streak at 232, and counting

The home sellout streak the Phillies have fashioned will come upon 3 years. To get there, they only need 11 more sold-out games. They have to get to 243 games. They are currently at 232. It appears likely that the Phillies will exceed that number this month, with 13 more home games remaining in June. But in a season in which the Phillies have struggled in the standings and with a...

Jonathan Papelbon says umpire ‘sucked,’ should be sent down to Triple-A (Video)

Jonathan Papelbon may have taken the loss as the Phillies were defeated 4-3 by the Dodgers on Monday night, but he is not taking the blame. That blame, he says, belongs to home plate umpire D.J. Reyburn. In a 3-3 tie in the ninth, Papelbon allowed a lead-off triple on a 2-2 pitch to Dodgers shortstop Dee Gordon. Papelbon thought he had strike three on the previous pitch, and naturally...

Phillies' Jonathan Papelbon Doesn't Take Too Kindly to Minor League Umpires

Photo: Philliedelphia/Lindsey Crew Lindsey was in the right place to catch Jonathan Papelbon after the top of the 9th inning last night en route to a Phillies 4-3 loss. As it turns out, the ball probably was not a strike, but there were issues with the umpire all night.  It appeared that since he knew he was done for the night anyway, he might as well risk an ejection.  After...
