It is a known fact across the web that Tom Hamilton has the best home run call in the majors. The Voice of the Cleveland Indians is in his 23rd year of calling the Tribe games from the radio booth for WTAM 1100. In his 23 years, Hamilton has called 68 postseason games for the Tribe including all six games from the 1995 World Series and all seven games from the 1997 World Series. Tom Hamilton has been honored at Progressive Field by having his own Bobblehead night, and has a facebook page entitled “Why Tom Hamilton has the Best Home Run Call in all of Baseball”. It’s true. Links are posted on the page after great calls and many people download his Home run calls as ringtones. When Cincinnati’s Aroldis Chapman threw a high and tight fast ball and Nick Swisher’s head  back in May, Hamilton said on air that the pitch was thrown intentionally at Swisher. “What you’d love to see Swisher do here is knock it right off the temple of Chapman and see how much fun it is to have a ball coming at your head, that is bush league. You just can’t be throwing at people’s heads. The first one may have gotten away, the second one did not. And there are three more games to go with the Reds. This isn’t over yet. I’ll guarantee you one thing Francona will make sure that this is settled on the field.” Hamilton later on commented on his call stating, what’s said is said and didn’t back down on his comments. Any other radio personality would be forced to apologize or retract his statement. Many would rather listen to the game on WTAM 1100 than watch Matt Underwood and Rick Manning call the game on Sportstime Ohio. After Underwood’s many “Blunderwoods” and seemingly…odd broadcasting, Hamilton is who everyone trusts and falls back on. Many Saturdays, Fox has their Game of the Week and the Tribe games are not televised. Last time this happened, we all missed Lonnie Chisenhall who broke the game wide open with a grand slam. Thanks to the magic of technology, we were all treated to Hammy’s absolutely spectacular call of the Chisenhall shot. Sit back and enjoy. Tom Hamilton’s Call of Lonnie Chisenhall’s Grand Slam! Yes, Clevelanders are completely biased, but after hearing just two of his calls, Tom Hamilton is clearly in a league of his own in this town. Hamilton was off for a few games after having knee surgery and his presence was missing. The Indians lost 2 out 3 to Minnesota and Seattle and in his first game back last night, The Indians won in walk off fashion (after blowing a 7-1 lead) to the Rangers.The guy needs to be inducted into the Ohio Broadcasters Hall Of Fame, and soon, be inducted into Cooperstown.
