Photo of Curtis Granderson's spikes honoring Brian Bluhm, who was killed in the Virginia Tech shootings five years ago

Curtis Granderson has not been a Detroit Tiger since 2009, but that did not stop him from honoring a Tigers fan who was killed in the disgusting events that took place at Virginia Tech five years ago.  Monday marked the fifth anniversary of the 32 slayings.

So Monday night, Granderson wore wrist bands and cleats to pay tribute to a diehard Tigers fan, Brian Bluhm.  Granderson was Bluhm’s favorite player.

“It’s just something I like to do for his family,” Granderson told the New York Daily News. “They sent me a picture of him and we’ve kind of kept in touch.”

Granderson homered in the Yankees 7-3 loss to Minnesota.  Granderson is donating the spikes and wrist bands to Bluhm’s family.

What might seem like such a small courteous move by Granderson I’m sure means so much more to Brian Bluhm’s family.  Curtis is far and away one of the classiest gentlemen in not only Major League Baseball, but all of sports.  It’s outstanding that he’s carried on this little tradition despite no longer playing for the Tigers.

We miss you in Detroit, Grandy, but keep up the good work man.

Bard to Get Start Against Yankees

This strikes me as a good call. @PeteAbeValentine just said that Bard will start on Sunday against the Yankees. #RedSoxThere had been talk of starting Lester, given the off day today, but Bard improved dramatically in his second start, whereas Lester had his first bad outing in his third start and could probably use a day off.The Yankees, by the way, are not exactly running away...

Not-So-Rapid Raction: Yankees 7, Twins 6

The Yankees had every excuse to mail in last night’s game. For starters, they have a 3:00 game in Boston today, and a nice, quick outing would have given them some measure of rest before this important series. Then Phil Hughes came out and got lit up in the first inning, and there had to be some temptation to pack it in and just hack away at every half-decent pitch. In fact,...
