San Francisco Giants: Why September is important

The Giants entered Thursday’s game with the Arizona Diamondbacks at 62-77, 21 games behind the first place Dodgers, and struggling with the San Diego Padres to see who will finish last in the division. So, by the record, it would seem that the Giants season is over which it is. However, the Giants still have things they need to do. Heath Hembree throws for the Giants in spring...

Did Yusmeiro Petit’s Wife Cost Him A Chance At A Perfect Game?

Quick, what’s the first rule of a pitcher throwing a perfect game? DON’T TALK ABOUT IT. Heck, don’t even stop there–don’t talk about it, think about it and for heaven’s sake don’t let a police escort take you down to the field so you can witness the magic closer and celebrate. That’s precisely what Yusmeiro Petit’s wife made the mistake of doing. Call it silly...

Petit (3-0) struck out Chris Owings to begin the ninth, and Gerardo Parra followed...

D-Backs manage 1 hit in 3-0 loss to Giants

Eric Chavez thought he would make a pinch-hit appearance. He never imagined it would be under these circumstances. ''I had never faced him before, so I came up to watch him pitch in the fifth and he was...

Diamondbacks use big inning to down Giants

Only Pablo Sandoval of all people got away with running on Gerardo Parra. A day after his three home-run trots in San Diego Sandoval was in sprinting mode in Thursday night's 4-2 loss to the Diamondbacks in the opener of a weeklong homestand. He tripled in the fourth inning belly-flopping into third base to complete a mad 270-foot dash and then had the gall to tag and head for...
