It's looking more and more likely that Carlos Lee is going to veto the pending trade that would have sent the former All-Star to the Dodgers, in exchange for Garrett Gould and cash. Astros beat writer Brian McTaggart updates us this morning saying, Carlos Lee hasn't made a decision yet, but he's in the Astros lineup today.

The general consensus is Lee is going to be staying in Houston. The Dodgers aren't worried, tweets Buster Olney, the Dodgers attitude "Something else will come up (if it falls through). We'll get somebody."

I certainly hope so at this point. I'm already on the fence with pending trade, sure Lee is an upgrade, but so is pretty much every first baseman compared to James Loney. It's not the impact move I was hoping for. Lee is an upgrade, no denying that, but it's marginal, and I am perfectly content with Juan Rivera and Bobby Abreu handling duties at first base for the rest of the season. Lee, who just turned 36,  is no longer the player he used to be. It's certainly not going to be a repeat of 2008, when the Dodgers brought Manny Ramirez to Los Angeles. I'm guessing the Dodgers know that already, how I would love to avoid another band-aid move here. The trade could definitely serve Lee well if he accepts the trade, produces, and goes into free agency as a hitter, and not a farmer.

I definitely think the Dodgers could do better than Lee, namely Edwin Encarnacion, Chase Headley, and Bryan LaHair. Preferably in that order. Though it's not like the Dodgers are giving up a whole lot to acquire "El Caballo". It's also growing more and more apparent the Dodgers have finally given up on James Loney, and rightfully so. Instead of trending towards breaking out, or becoming a consistent baseball player, Loney continues to show signs of regression. I've called for the Dodgers to send Loney packing for the last two seasons, but it looks like Mattingly has finally seen enough.

“It’s really been kind of going into the last two years now, we’re kinda looking at more of a backwards progression with a little bit of a good second half [in 2010],” he said. “So now it’s starting to look like it’s getting in the opposite direction, where you’re not getting as much production.

My biggest concern right now is it looks like Carlos Lee doesn't want to be a Dodger. He's obviously not jumping at the opportunity, meaning he's lukewarm, that's never good. You are either with us, or against us. The Dodgers aren't offering Lee inducement to waive his no-trade clause. The Astros still could, but at least it looks like the front office is getting the big picture here.

With Lee mulling over Dodgertown, or raising cattle, I feel his priorities may be a bit skewed. I don't anticipate this trade working out very well for the Dodgers. I think the Dodgers should just rescind the offer and move on to explore other trades. If Lee doesn't want to be here, then why exactly do the Dodgers want him here?
