Tweet Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw was named as the National League’s Cy Young Award recipient by the BBWAA (Baseball Writer’s Association of America) Wednesday, with Detroit Tigers starter Max Scherzer winning the award for the American League. Kershaw led the majors in earned run average in 2013 for the third consecutive season, posting a career-best 1.83 ERA in 33 starts. The lefty also led the NL with 232 strikeouts in 236 innings pitched while posting a record of 16-9. Kershaw won the award in 2011 and finished second in the balloting for 2012. Scherzer started the season hot and continued his dominance throughout the year, winning a MLB-best 21 games to only three losses and posting a 2.90 ERA. Scherzer was also second in the AL in strikeouts (240) and was named to his first All Star team in 2013. He won his first 13 starts of the season and 19 of his first 20 before suffering his second loss of the year in early September. Last year’s winners were then-Mets right hander R.A. Dickey for the NL and Tampa Bay Rays lefty David Price in the AL.

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw wins 2013 National League Cy Young award

For the second time in three years, Clayton Kershaw on Wednesday was voted as the best pitcher in the National League by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Kershaw received 29 of the 30 first-place votes. The Cardinals' finished second Adam Wainwright finished second and the Marlins' Jose Fernandez -- who was named NL Rookie of the Year on Monday -- finished...

Max Scherzer wins 2013 AL Cy Young Award

There's something very special about watching a player put everything together in an unbelievable season like Detroit Tigers starter Max Scherzer did this year. Scherzer, 29, always possessed incredible talent, a strong work ethic and a keen intellect. In 2013, he combined all of that for a dominating 21-3 record, 2.90 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and for the sabermetric crowd, a 6.7 WAR...

Kershaw won the prize as the National League's best pitcher for the second time in three seasons after leading the majors with a 1.83 ERA. Max Scherzer is on the Block, Because, Cy Young

It looks like the Detroit Tigers are going to borrow a page from the New York Mets game plan and attempt to trade their Cy Young winning pitcher, Max Scherzer. Yes, I am fully aware that Scherzer has yet to actually win the Cy Young, but let's not try to kid ourselves here. He went 21-3, posted a 2.90 ERA, a 2.74 FIP and struck out a rather absurd 10.08 hitters per nine innings...

Max Scherzer Wins AL CY Young

Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer was named the AL CY Young winner today. He won in a landslide, collecting 28 of the 30 first place votes. Scherzer went 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA, both career bests. Sure, we can have the debate about how much won-loss record measures a pitcher’s ability. It doesn’t mean anything. You could argue with me, but you’d be wrong. Nevertheless, Scherzer...

Why Clayton Kershaw is setting a new standard for Cy Young award

The list of Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers that have won the coveted Cy Young award is as impressive as any in baseball history, however, the latest addition in Clayton Kershaw may eventually outshine them all. Kershaw received his second Cy Young award on Wednesday cementing his name to the list of other Dodger greats with names like Fernando Valenzuela, Orel Hershiser, and even...

Clayton Kershaw, Max Scherzer Grab Cy Young Awards

The Detroit Tigers’ Max Scherzer won his first American League Cy Young Award, while the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw easily grabbed his second NL Cy Young in three years as the Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced winners this evening. Cy Young winners Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw awarded WWE belts

Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer just seems to be a real guy's guy. He runs the clubhouse's fantasy football league, he wears really cool custom goggles during champagne celebrations, and he can throw a mean slider. What's not to like about him? I guess the only that separates him from the rest of us is that he just so happens to be the best pitcher in the American League...

Scherzer open to contract extension with Tigers

On the day Max Scherzer officially won the AL Cy Young award for his amazing 2013 season, he was prepared for the questions about 2014. With rumors building about the possibility of the Tigers trading Scherzer with a year left on his contract and potential free-agent stardom to follow, he didn’t want to take away from his celebration. “The business side will take care of itself...

Cy Young winners are ready to rumble
