GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Tim Stauffer pitched three-hit ball for six innings and had a two-run single, leading the San Diego Padres to a 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday for their fifth straight win. Stauffer struck out two and didn't walk a batter. Jamey Wright, a former starter who is trying to make the Dodgers' staff as swing man, started and pitched two perfect innings. Mike MacDougal and Kenley Jansen were among those who pitched scoreless innings for the Dodgers.

Stauffer dazzles Dodgers in 3-0 shutout

There are still twoweeks left in spring training, but two observations are worth noting afterwatching the Dodgers and the Padres face off Wednesday in Glendale Ariz. One: Padres right-handerTim Stauffer looks ready to pitch the season opener April 5. Two: The Dodgersbullpen probably needs a little more work. Stauffer, alreadypenciled in as San Diegos starter against the Dodgers...

Andre Ethier is in tandem with Matt Kemp

Reporting from Phoenix With Matt Kemp batting in front of him and presumably reaching base 35 to 40 of the time, Andre Ethier figures to see a significant number of hittable pitches this season. Ethier, in turn, thinks Kemp could benefit from his presence in the cleanup spot . "I'm hoping he's not going to be walked too much because if I'm doing my part, they...

Fox Sports San Diego Puts Padres Fans in a Tough Position

Fox Sports San Diego has launched on Cox and Direct TV, but fans that subscribe to other carriers are still on the outside looking in. I’m hearing the channel is fantastic, but as an AT&T Uverse subscriber, I do not receive FSSD. For those in San Diego that subscribe to UVerse, Time Warner, or Dish Network, you are still wondering if you will be able to watch Padres games in...

Dodgers' starter Chad Billingsley needs to trust his fastball

As the old adage goes, the fastball is the best pitch in baseball. There's a reason for that. Without a good fastball, the secondary stuff doesn't matter. Now, a good fastball doesn't have to be 95 MPH-plus, but it has to be consistent and located well. This is where we come to Chad Billingsley. The Dodgers' starter was a top prospect ever since he was drafted with...

MLB 2012 Preview: San Diego Padres

The NL West is a mess. There are five teams and four of them are right about at the same place. The fifth team, the team that is by far the worst of them all, is the San Diego Padres. After Jed Hoyer and Jason McLeod left to work with Theo Epstein in Chicago, the Padres turned the reins of the ever constant rebuilding process over to former Diamondback General Manager, Josh Byrnes...

2012 MLB Season Preview: Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodgers fans must be ecstatic that 2011 is behind them. The McCourt divorce dragged the franchise down, and on top of that last season began with two Dodgers fans attacking a Giants fan. As the summer went on, Frank McCourt battled Commissioner Selig for control of the team. Now, the team is on the cusp of having a new owner. Even if the on-the-field product is a disaster this year...

Dodgers start season on brink of new ownership

The Dodgers head into a new season nearing the end of the Frank McCourt era, with a sale of the team scheduled to be finalized by the end of April. It will be a welcome change for the front office, the team and its fans, who stayed away in droves in 2011 when off-the-field developments overshadowed anything Clayton Kershaw, Matt Kemp and the Dodgers did on it. As owner, McCourt...

Padres try to rebound from 91-loss season

The San Diego Padres think they'll be better this year. Considering they finished last in the NL West at 71-91 last season, there's only one direction they can go. The Padres struggled from the opening week on and managed to get yet another hitting coach fired before new general manager Josh Byrnes began to turn things around with a series of deals in December and January...

Daily Friar 3.22.12

The Padres are in a very interesting, but good, situation at the catching position. In past years the catcher has been a revolving door. Not until recently with Nick Hundley have we actually had some foundation at catcher. He has a new contract extension, which I personally think is well deserved. The problem we have though is the two guys in the minors that want Nick's spot...

Daily Friar 3.21.12

It was a big day for the Padres yesterday. A contract got extended, and the team pulled out a win last night. This team has been looking pretty good as of late driving in runs and getting men on base when it counts. It's interesting to note too that this team is staying hot even without the presence of Carlos Quentin in the lineup. In fact one of his potential replacements come...

Padres lock up Hundley through 2015

The San Diego Padres today announced that they have agreed to terms with catcher Nick Hundley on a contract through the 2014 season with a club option for 2015.

Stanley Gold/Disney Family has been put back into the bidding process, but does it matter?

The Los Angeles Dodgers bidding group of Stanley Gold/Disney Family has been reinstated by the MLB. Stanley Gold and the family of the late Roy Disney were reinstated to the Dodgers bidding on Monday, leaving five parties in contention to buy the team. The decision was disclosed by two people familiar with the sale process

An increasing trend in baseball: 40 steals, 100 strikeouts

For a speedy center fielder, Cameron Maybin must have been swinging for the fences in 2011. Besides stealing 40 bases last year, more than he’d swiped in his four previous seasons combined, the Padres outfielder struck out 125 times, also a career-high. It wasn’t the greatest of feats for Maybin, a long-heralded prospect and a centerpiece of Tigers-Marlins Miguel Cabrera trade...

Los Angeles Dodgers 2012 Season Preview: Shortstop

Heading into 2012, the Los Angeles Dodgers will have a new face manning the shortstop position. With Rafael Furcal traded away in 2011 and Jamey Carroll off to the Minnesota Twins, Dee Gordon will take the reins and look to utilize his speed, range, and strong arm. One of the team’s top prospects heading into
