The trade deadline is upon us, as we're about seven hours away from 4 PM ET, the time by which all trades must be completed. After a busy Monday, Tuesday was much quieter...until the wee hours of the morning, when Jake Peavy went to the Red Sox and Jose Iglesias went to Detroit. The A's also brought in Alberto Callaspo from the Angels, and Mark Rzepczynski moved from the Cardinals to the Indians. Today might be a much less exciting deadline in comparison to other years with all of the major names getting moved already, but you never know on July 31st. PIC OF THE DAY Everth Cabrera throws from...well, I don't even know (Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports) Game of the Night: Rangers 14, Angels 11 (11 innings). Two walkoff losses in Texas are the dagger in the back of Anaheim's season. With the game deadlocked at seven heading into the eighth, the Angels exploded four runs runs off of Tanner Scheppers (only one earned) to give themselves a nice cushion. In the bottom of the eighth, Dane de la Rosa attempted to give the lead back, allowing a three-run homer to Geovany Soto to cut the Angels lead to a run. Ernesto Frieri proceeded to blow his second save in as many days in the ninth after Nick Maronde was questionably pulled despite two straight strikeouts. Frieri walked Ian Kinsler, let him steal second, and gave up a game-tying single to Adrian Beltre. After a quiet top of the tenth, Daniel Stange came in for his first appearance of the year in the bottom of the inning. He promptly walked a pair of hitters and gave up a walkoff three-run homer to Leonys Martin, ending the game with seven straight runs for the Rangers. Pitching Lines of the Night: The Pirates duo of AJ Burnett and Brandon Cumpton led the Pirates to a doubleheader sweep of the Cardinals. In Pittsburgh's 2-1, 11 inning win in game one, Burnett allowed one run on three hits in seven innings, striking out nine and walking three. In the Pirates' 6-0 game two win, Cumpton gave up three hits over seven scoreless innings, walking one and punching out five. Roberto Hernandez dominated the Diamondbacks in a 5-2 Rays win, allowing two runs on five hits in a complete game, walking one and striking out six. Mark Buehrle controlled the A's in Toronto's 5-0 win, giving up five hits over seven shutout frames, striking out a pair without a walk. Ervin Santana carried the Royals to a 7-2 win over the Twins, allowing two runs on four hits in seven innings, walking one and striking out eight. Hitting Lines of the Night: Freddie Freeman helped the Braves smash the Rockies 11-3, going 2/4 with three runs, four RBI, a walk, and a pair of homers. In Kansas City's win in Minnesota, Mike Moustakas went 2/3 with two homers, three RBI, and a walk. Mike Trout was unreal in the Angels' loss in Texas, going 4/4 with three runs, an RBI, a double, and two walks. In the win over Anaheim, Geovany Soto went 2/4 with two runs, three RBI, two walks, and a homer. Yuniesky Betancourt helped the Brewers to a 6-5 win over the Cubs, going 3/4 with two runs and a solo homer. Other Games: The Orioles topped the Astros 4-3. Houston scratched Bud Norris from his start, but hasn't traded him yet. The Indians rallied to beat the White Sox 7-4. An Alex Avila grand slam helped the Tigers to a 5-1 win over the Nationals. The Red Sox smashed the Mariners 8-2. The Phillies topped the Giants 7-3. The Mets beat the Marlins 4-2 in ten. The Dodgers walked off on the Yankees, 3-2. The Padres rallied late once again to beat the Reds 4-2. What You Missed: Andrelton Simmons, baseball trick master. Please MLB teams, stop the one-day contracts. The Dodgers signed Brian Wilson. Today's Games: Gio Gonzalez and Justin Verlander will duel in Detroit. RA Dickey will take on Bartolo Colon in Oakland. Mike Minor and the Braves host the Rockies. Adam Wainwright starts for the Cardinals in Pittsburgh. Hisashi Iwakuma and John Lackey will face off in Boston. Hiroki Kuroda and Clayton Kershaw will battle in Los Angeles. National TV: Cardinals-Pirates (7 PM, ESPN) MLB.tv Free Game: Astros vs Orioles (7 PM) Pitching Matchup of the Day: Hiroki Kuroda vs Clayton Kershaw (Yankees vs Dodgers, 10 PM) Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
