The Philadelphia Phillies lost 5-1 to the Chicago Cubs yesterday in a game that saw the Phililes get just two hits. For the season, they've scored just 70 runs, fourth worst in baseball. Their .635 OPS is 25th in the league, and their .288 OBP is third worst in baseball. Here's the thing about the Phillies, though: they've only played nine games against teams at or above .500, and six of those came against NL West teams....and the other three were against the Mets. They're somehow 4-5 in those games, which is showing me that they're not beating the teams they should beat, not exactly a beacon of confidence at the end of the day.

Game of the Day: Reds 6, Astros 5. The Astros picked up a pair of early runs, but that lead was erased almost immediately in the fourth inning on a two-run homer by Joey Votto. The Astros answered in the fifth with a two-run homer from Jed Lowrie. Zack Cozart doubled a run home in the bottom of the fifth, but Matt Downs stretched the lead to two runs again in the sixth on a Matt Downs homer. Another two-run Votto double in the seventh tied the game, and Jay Bruce homered in the eighth to put the Reds in front for the first time all day. Sean Marshall set the Astros down in order in the ninth, and that was that.

Pitching Line of the Day: Matt Garza dominated the Cubs, going seven shutout innings allowing just one hit, walking just one, and striking out ten Phillies. Chris Capuano (of all people) dominated the Nationals offense, throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings while allowing just three hits and two walks, and striking out nine Washington hitters. Really, Chris Capuano? OK then. Wade Miley of the Diamondbacks had another good start while replacing Daniel Hudson in Arizona's rotation, allowing just one unearned run over 6 1/3 innings on one hit and two walks, with six strikeouts mixed in there as well.

Hitting Line of the Day: Votto had a big day for the Reds, going 2/3 with a pair of doubles and four RBI. Josh Willingham went 3/5 with two RBI, two runs, and finished just a homer shy of the cycle. Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies went 2/3 with two runs, an RBI, two walks, and a homer.

Spotlight Series: The Rays defeated the Rangers 5-2 and took the series, handing Texas its first series loss of the season. Starter David Price allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings, walking one and striking out six. His counterpart Derek Holland allowed five runs in seven innings, but did strike out eight to just two walks. The Rays didn't have a homer during the game, but Ben Zobrist finished a homer shy of the cycle. Texas's offense just couldn't get anything going all game, and Nelson Cruz was the only Ranger to reach base twice as Texas didn't have an extra base hit all game.

Other Games: The Yankees beat the slumping Tigers 6-2 behind a strong effort from CC Sabathia. Derek Lowe and the Indians shut out the Angels 4-0. The Diamondbacks crushed the Marlins and Josh Johnson 8-4. Edwin Encarnacion hit his 7th homer of the year, as the Blue Jays beat the Mariners 7-2. The Braves beat the Pirates 4-3 in Tim Hudson's first start of the year. The Orioles got five in the ninth to walk-off on the A's 5-2. Gavin Floyd threw six no hit innings as the White Sox beat the Red Sox 4-1. The Brewers edged the Cardinals 3-2 as Zack Greinke outdueled Jaime Garcia. The Twins beat the Royals 7-4 as Bruce Chen struggled again. The Mets beat the Rockies 6-5 in 11 innings on a late single by Ike Davis. Madison Bumgarner had another good start, and the Giants beat the Padres 4-1. The Dodgers shut out the Nationals 2-0, but hey, Bryce Harper had a single and a walk.

Today's Games: Partial schedule today, with only 12 games on the slate. Kyle Drabek and Yu Darvish will duel in Texas. Pat Corbin makes his major league debut for the Diamondbacks against the Marlins. The surprising Jason Hammel takes on Hiroki Kuroda and the Yankees. Mike Minor starts for the Braves against the Pirates. The effective Tom Milone will take on the ineffective Clay Buchholz. Felix Hernandez and Jeremy Hellickson is a great matchup in Tampa Bay. CJ Wilson goes for the Angels against the Twins.

Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
