Jacoby Ellsbury was the highlight of the night, setting a franchise record by stealing five bases in a single game. He stole second base four different times and third base once. Jumping coasts we saw Felix Hernandez continue to earn his fat salary as he pitched eight innings of one run ball. On the other end of the spectrum, RA Dickey and Brandon McCarthy continue to struggle in their quest to regain their 2012 dominance. Travis Wood hit a grand slam for the Cubs. The Pirates beat the Tigers in extra innings without registering a single extra base hit.White Sox 3 v Cubs 8:Travis Wood earned his fifth win of the season as the Cubs won the battle for the Windy City.  Wood pitched six innings, surrendering only two runs on five hits and two walks. Wood also hit a grand slam off Jake Peavy. Luis Valbuena and Nate Schierholtz also hit home runs for the Cubs.  Alex Rios and Paul Konerko hit doubles for the White Sox (The Chicago Cubs swept the series 2-0).Diamondbacks 5 v Rangers 9: Brandon McCarthy struggles again, giving up six earned runs while only lasting 2.2 innings. Justin Grimm was the winning pitcher for Texas, giving up two earned runs in six innings. Nelson Cruz, AJ Pierzynski, and Adrian Beltre all hit doubles for the Rangers and Mitch Moreland and Daniel Murphy added home runs. Paul Goldschmidt hit a double for Arizona and Martin Prado had two RBI (Texas won the series 1-0).Mariners 7 v Padres 1: Felix Hernandez dominated again, pitching eight strong innings, giving up only one run on three hits and three walks. Kendrys Morales, Brendan Ryan, Nick Franklin x2, and Eric Chavez all hit home runs for the Mariners. Carlos Quentin had San Diego’s lone RBI (The series split 1-1).Athletics 2 v Giants 5: The battle for the Bay tied as Barry Zito pitched six innings of one run ball for his fourth win and Sergio Romo collected his 14th save. Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt had doubles for the Giants. Coco Crisp hit a double and stole a base for the Athletics (The series split 1-1).Mets 3 v Yankees 1:Dillon Gee struck out twelve batters and allowed only one run in 7.1 innings. Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect ninth with one strike out to record his ninth save of the season. Marlon Byrd hit his sixth home run of the season for the Mets. Robinson Cano hit a home run for the Yankees (The New York Mets swept the series 2-0).Nationals 0 v Orioles 2: Freddy Garcia threw eight shut out innings on only three hits. Jim Johnson pitched a perfect ninth with one strikeout to earn his 17thsave. Nate McLouth x2, Nick Markakis, and Manny Machado had doubles for the Orioles. Dan Haren pitched well, but he took the loss for the Nationals, going 7.1 innings and allowing only two runs. The Nationals did not register a single extra base hit (Baltimore swept the series 2-0).Reds 1 v Indians 7:Scott Kazmir pitched seven innings of one run ball on eight hits and one walk. Homer Bailey got roughed up, giving up seven earned runs over only 3.2 innings. Ryan Raburn, Michael Bourn, and Asdrubal Cabrera all had doubles for the Indians. Jay Bruce, Brandon Philips, and Devin Mesoraco all had doubles for the Reds (Cleveland swept the series 2-0).Red Sox 9 v Phillies 2: Franklin Morales records the win as he pitched five innings and allowed two runs. Miguel Cabrera x2 and Omar Infante had doubles for the Tigers (Pittsburgh swept the series 2-0).Blue Jays 3 v Braves 11: Mike Minor gave up two earned runs over seven innings to earn the win for the Braves. RA Dickey continued to struggle giving up six earned runs on eleven hits and one walk over six innings. Freddie Freeman and Reed Johnson hit home runs for the Braves. Emilio Bonafacio and Mark DeRosa hit doubles for the Blue Jays (The series split 1-1).Rays 5 v Marlins 2:Alex Colome picked up his first win and Fernando Rodney earned his 11thsave of the season for the Rays. Ricky Nolasco gave up three earned runs over 6.2 innings on four hits and four walks. Desmond Jennings and Ben Zobrist hit doubles and Matt Joyce and James Loney hit home runs for the Rays. Ricky Nolasco had the only extra base hit for the Marlins (Tampa Bay swept the series 2-0).Brewers 6 v Twin 8:Kyle Lohse lost for the sixth time, giving up six earned runs on eight hits and one walk over 4.2 innings. PJ Walters earned his second win for the Twins. Chris Parmelee, Brian Dozier, Joe Mauer, and Ryan Doumit all homered for the Twins. Jeff Bianchi, Logan Schafer, and Rickie Weeks hit doubles for the Brewers (Minnesota swept the series 2-0).Royals 4 v Cardinals 2: Jeremy Guthrie pitched six innings and allowed only two runs on eight hits while striking out six. Greg Holland earned his eighth save for the Royals. Matt Carpenter hit a double and Matt Holliday stole a base for the Cardinals (The series split 1-1).Astros 7 v Rockies 5:Lucas Harrell picked up the win for the Astros and Hector Ambriz earned his first save. Chris Carter and Matt Dominguez hit home runs for the Astros. Carlos Gonzalez stole three bases for the Rockies (Houston swept the series 2-0).Dodgers 2 v Angels 3:Jason Vargas earned his fifth win and Ernesto Frieri collected his 12thsave for the Angels. Carl Crawford hit a triple for the Dodgers (The Angels swept the series 2-0).
