Jose Fernandez did not have his best stuff on Thursday and the Cincinnati Reds made him pay as he fell to 0-1 on the season.    The final was 11-1 with the Miami Marlins losing by their largest margin thus far on the year.   The loss moved Miami to 3-13 on the season keeping them on the same pace as the 1962 New York Mets for historic futility. Fernandez looked like he was about to post a third straight great start for the first two innings but the Reds began to get to him while his off-speed pitches remained inconsistent throughout this start.    In all, Fernandez allowed five runs on six hits in only four innings of work which was his shortest outing as a Major League player.   The rookie did manage to add four strikeouts to his totals but also walked three in the contest.   After Ferandez was lifted, John Maine took over and didn’t fare any better as he allowed six runs in his two innings of work.   Maine’s E.R.A skyrocketed to 12.27 on the year before Jon Rauch and A.J. Ramos worked an inning each in scoreless fashion. The lone run for Miami came on a Justin Ruggiano home run, the second of the year for the Marlins’ outfielder.   Chris Coghlan continued to show improvement picking up two hits including his first double of the season.   Coghlan will likely see time at all three outfield spots in the coming days. On Friday, the Marlins are scheduled to send Kevin Slowey to the mound to take on the Reds in game two of the four game series.
