For the final day of our 2011 face-offs we decided to pick two historic moments in sports. When you watch these moments it’s hard not to get the chills. Obviously, there were a ton of great sports moments in 2011, but these are the two we picked.

In one corner, we have Mr. 3,000. Derek Jeter got his 3,000th hit in 2011. It was just another amazing moment in an amazing career for the Yankees’ Captain. Jeter, of course, did it in historic fashion with a home run of Tampa Rays’ lefty David Price. Jeter became the 28th player to record 3,000 hits and the second to do it with a home run.

Abby Wambach’s goal vs. Brazil in the 2011 Women’s World Cup was just next level. There’s a reason it won the ESPY for the Play of the Year. Just listed to the video. It gives you the chills. Just an amazing, amazing moment, at the biggest stage in the world. Wambach’s goal was and will be the latest goal in a World Cup match ever.

Winner – This is impossible. I’m a big Jeter fan so I’m biased, but you can’t vote against the US Women and Abby Wambach. This seriously took the nation by storm. I’m going with Wambach. Both are nothing short of amazing, and both are why we watch sports.

Michael Jordan and Girflriend Yvette Prieto Are Engaged

Michael Jordan is off the market. According to WCNC in Charlotte, Jordan recently proposed to longtime girlfriend Yvette Prieto. Considering she reportedly said yes, it’s safe to assume Jordan’s golf-playing, cigar-smoking, gambling, Bobcat-owning lifestyle is just fine with her. Good for them. The irony of the news for me is that M.J. was seen sitting courtside at the Bobcats...

Michael Jordan Apparently Didn’t Learn Anything From Michael Jordan

In yesterday’s Top Sports Moments of 2011 feature, I pointed out that New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has already proven time and again that he does relationships right. While other athletes have been taken to the cleaners by their wives in divorces because of infidelities, Jeter just brings home whichever girl or girls he wants, does his thing and then sends them home...
