Ozzie Guillen is in Miami. The Marlins need starting pitching. Carlos Zambrano is a starter. Zambrano is good friends with Guillen and needs out of Chicago.
Whether the next logical step is in the Marlins’ best interest is debatable.
Rumors have begun flying about Zambrano landing in South Florida. In Sunday’s edition of El Nacional, Ignacio Serrano writes in his column that Guillen and fellow Venezuelan Zambranoalready have discussed the idea of him pitching for the Marlins in 2012. Felix Luzon, identified in the story as Zambrano’s friend and administrator in Venezuela, said a scenario may be possible in which the Cubs release Zambrano and he agrees to collect the remaining $18 million owed him in deferred payments.
Before settling for such a scenario, the Cubs likely would explore trade possibilities. If they’re going to pay his entire 2012 salary, they should at least try to get a minor leaguer out of it from someone. The Cubs, who do not have a permanent GM in place yet, have z...
