Joaquin Benoit boogies down in the bullpen

via MLB.com With a 6-0 Tigers lead in the bottom of the eighth Wednesday, Tigers closer Joaquin Benoit figured he wouldn’t be needed.  So he did what any normal white guy would do when Young MC’s “Bust a Move” comes on the radio. The only problem – you aren’t white, Joaquin.  We’re going to need more. Benoit was actually called upon to finish the game in a non-save...

Innocent or Guilty With Biogenesis Case, Jhonny Peralta Must Let Detroit Tigers Know Very Soon

Either way, the Jhonny Peralta-Biogenesis scenario will work itself out in the wash, but the shortstop should be providing answers to his organization. Currently, Jhonny Peralta is playing perhaps the biggest role since joining the Detroit Tigers in 2010. He’s clubbing home runs, hitting the ball to every field and playing solid defense. All of that makes his potential elimination...

Miguel Cabrera Wants You To Eat This Cookie

As one of the best hitters in baseball, Miguel Cabrera is extremely entertaining to watch at the plate. As one of the funnier personalities in baseball, Miguel Cabrera is extremely entertaining to watch in the dugout. After we got some footage of Miggy doing the robot in the dugout earlier this week, we now have the Tigers third baseman attempting to force feed a cookie to a teammate...

First Pitch: Huntington’s Underrated Trades, and the 2013 Deadline Challenge

It’s kind of fitting how the current trade deadline is shaping up. Back when the Pittsburgh Pirates were rebuilding, teams were hoarding prospects. No one traded top prospects, and sometimes entire minor league teams would be made unavailable, even for good players in return. Now the Pirates have their best shot of contending, and have one of the best farm systems in the game....

Cole pitches, hits Pirates to 5-1 victory over Nationals

Gerrit Cole got back to his winning ways Tuesday night. And he did so in dominant fashion. Cole allowed just two hits over seven innings as he paced the Pirates to a 5-1 victory against the Nationals at Nationals Park. After winning his first four career starts, Cole lost three in a row heading into his outing Tuesday as his ERA climbed to 3.89. But he was at his best against the...

Pirates 4, Nationals 2

Francisco Liriano was brilliant yet again in the Pirates’ fourth straight victory on Wednesday night, as the Bucs continue to roll in Washington this week. Liriano quickly walked the leadoff man, which might have induced some worries after a poor start last time out. He quickly alleviated all concerns by allowing no more baserunners until the fourth – another walk. He returned...

Game 98: Pirates 5 Nationals 1

One way to ease the loss of your closer a little bit is to jump out to a 3-0 lead, get a strong start, and reel in a wire-to-wire four-run win. That's what the Pirates did to the Nationals tonight, converting one of Gerrit Cole's best starts as a Pirate, timely hitting (some from Gerrit Cole himself!), and a Pedro Alvarez homer into an easy 5-1 win over the Nats.  I...
