The first inter-league game of the series didn’t exactly go as planned. With the pitcher hitting, the Red Sox lacked some punch, and now have to hope for a series split. Worst of all, the Red Sox saw the Jonathan Papelbon super fist pump.
Here are the four bases:
First Base: His story may have some cobwebs on it, but I still find Daniel Nava‘s tale entrancing from time to time. He hit his seventh home run against Philadelphia on Wednesday, which is the same team he hit a grand slam on the first major league pitch he saw. Nava now has as many home runs this year as he had in his career coming into 2013. He is converting from a good story into a good player.
Second Base: Once again, it is easy to point to the 1-for-8 the Red Sox had with runners in scoring position. However, a good amount of teams struggle with runners in scoring position. The Red Sox are actually seventh in the majors with a .282 average with runners in scoring position. The inconsistency of that average is more a pr...

NEVER SAY NEVER
Despite the Red Sox being one of the teams on his no-trade list, Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon could see himself one day heading back to Boston.
The last time Jonathan Papelbon walked off the mound for the Red Sox, Boston had just completed the worst collapse in team history. Less than three months later, Papelbon, the Sox all-time saves leader, walked out of Fenway for good, signing a four-year, $50 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Before last night’s game Papelbon was back...
I heard this a couple of hours ago and I have been debating whether or not to talk about it. The reason is, I really don't care. If you haven't heard, The Red Sox have made Jonathan Papelbon's list of teams on his no-trade list included in his contract with the Phillies.
According to a major league source, Jonathan Papelbon has the Red Sox as one of the eight teams...
Red Sox fans didn’t show Jonathan Papelbon much affection when he sprinted in from the visitors’ bullpen at Fenway Park on Tuesday. Papelbon apparently felt the love, though.
“That’s how they love you in this city, man. That’s just how it is,” said Papelbon, who was booed when entering the game in the ninth inning. “I feel like the first time I got booed at Yankee Stadium...
This year has been a coming out party for Daniel Nava, so to speak. He's established himself this year as a reliable player. According to mlb.com, he's started 43 of 54 games and has a .288 average with 7 home runs, 33 RBI's, and a OPS of .867. Pretty impressive if you ask me. He's been good all year and he's come up with a couple big home runs. I think most people...
“Cinco loves that!” How fun is it to watch Jonathan Papelbon in a postgame interview? May be as fun as watching him pitch! http://www.mtrphilly.com. Talk #Phillies now on the MTR Nightcap on MTRRadio.com!

"Sibling Rivalry." I like that term for the little rivalry that Jonathan Papelbon has with the Red Sox. It went to a new level last night when the Red Sox were able to mount a rally against Pap, but Pap was able to finish us. Well, he's one of the best closers in the game. He's like Mariano Rivera, in that if you happen to get a win off...

On the latest edition of the PhoulBallz Minor League Podcast, Phillies reliever Justin De Fratus joined me and my co-host Tug Haines as our guest. Among the topics of discussion was the type of impact that veteran teammates have had on him thus far in his big league career.
While sharing his thoughts on Phils closer Jonathan Papelbon, the 25-year-old...
Cliff Lee pitched eight innings of four-hit ball and Jonathan Papelbon earned his first save at Fenway Park as a Red Sox opponent on Tuesday night, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-1 victory over Boston.
Michael Young and Domonic Brown homered for the Phillies, and Erik Kratz singled in the tiebreaking run in the seventh inning to snap Boston's four-game winning streak...
Domonic Brown has always been a highly touted prospect in the Philadelphia system. Against the Red Sox, he’s showing why.
Brown homered twice to lead a four-home-run Phillie attack against John Lackey and the Sox, and a late rally in the ninth against old friend Jonathan Papelbon wasn’t enough for Boston. Despite some late heroics, the power display from Philadelphia won the...
If you ever wanted to hit multiple home runs in a single big league game, I guess yesterday was the day to do it. Dioner Navarro, Ryan Zimmerman, Troy Tulowitzki, Domonic Brown, and Chris Davis all took advantage of the special alignment of the cosmos (though some more effectively than others).\
Let's get to the trots!

The Red Sox stumbled against the Phillies on Tuesday night at Fenway Park as former Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon closed out the ninth in 1-2-3 fashion.
Sox starting pitcher Ryan Dempster didn’t have his best outing of the season, pitching seven innings and giving up two runs on six hits. The right-hander falls to 2-6 on the season, and acknowledged after the game that he struggled...
The Boston Red Sox (32-22) will try to earn a split in their four-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies (26-27) tonight, as they have lost two out of the first three. The Sox tried to make a ninth-inning comeback Wednesday, but they fell one run short, as Jonathan Papelbon got his second save in as many nights. Tonight, Franklin Morales gets...
The Red Sox and Phillies continued their unique four-game series; the first two in Boston and the final two in Philly. The Sox made their first appearance in a National League park, thus shifting David Ortiz to the bench. It's always worth watching the Sox pitchers take some hacks at the plate too...especially Lackey
Besides the "solo-shot" night, both offenses were...
Now that the Boston Red Sox are more than a quarter through this 2013 season let's take a look and make some early grades for their outfield. Obviously due to injuries, mainly Shane Victorino, there have been numerous players who have played in the outfield for the Sox this year so we'll just focus on the main players who have been manning...
