Well that was quick. He's been unemployed for six whole days but Terry Francona has found some work (albeit temporarily) as Fox's color commentator for the beginning of the ALCS. According to CSNNE's Sean McAdam:

Francona has been hired by FOX to serve as a color commentator for the network's coverage of the American League Championship Series.

Francona, who parted company with the Red Sox last Friday, will be replacing Tim McCarver, who is sidelined with a medical issue.

McCarver is expected back by Game 3 of the ALCS, meaning Francona will likely work only the first two games of the telecasts with play-by-play announcer Joe Buck

Must be nice to find a job so quickly in this crappy economy! This of course is both good and bad for Sox fans.

The Good? If you can still stomach baseball, he's taking the mic away from McCarver. As much as I don't want to kick a guy while he's down, (never nice to make fun of a sick person) but it's an improvement to Fox's stagnant commentating. Maybe if he does so well, they keep him in there for the remainder of the playoffs. Now if they can just replace Joe Buck....

The Bad? If Detroit wins, you'll see Adrian Beltre go against Victor Martinez while Francona talks about how great those guys were in the clubhouse last season. If the Yankees win, Joe Buck will be constantly bringing up about how the Sox came back in '04 and ask Francona about it (even if it has nothing to do with the game that's happening). Then it will remind you how much this team has changed over time and make you want to throw your remote at the TV.
