I wanted to keep my streak of a recap-for-every-game going since I kind of fell off of the table towards the end of the year last fall and I don't want to head down the rabbit hole again. The problem is that I have nothing unique to say about this game at the moment; Erik Bedard hit some rough spots early but cruised after the fourth inning and pitched generally well. The Pirates only scored once against Kyle Lohse, and so they lost. The Pirates have scored 30 runs in 15 games. This is a problem. Updated to reflect the fact that when I wrote this mini-recap, I totally forgot the last two innings even happened.
BEST OF MAXIM
Poor Erik Bedard. The man has posted a very respectable 2.63 ERA, but leads the Majors in losses with 4. 4 starts, 4 losses. This is what happens when you pitch for the Majors' worst offense. The Pittsburgh Pirates should be ashamed. He's currently on pace for 43 losses. Congratulations Erik Bedard, you are the biggest loser.
The Pittsburgh Pirates activated A.J. Burnett off the 15-day disabled list and the right-hander is slated to start on Saturday night against St. Louis.
Burnett will start in place of Kevin Correia, who was scratched with discomfort in his side.
The 35-year-old Burnett has been out since fracturing his right orbital bone during a bunting drill on Feb. 29. He underwent surgery on...
Former Cardinals utilityman Joe Mather delivered the game-winning, two-run single off Cardinals right-hander Jason Motte to give the Chicago Cubs a 3-2 win over the Cardinals Monday night. But a bigger at-bat might have been the 12-pitch (six foul balls at 3-2) by pinch-hitter Bryan LaHair that resulted in a one-out walk.
Motte then walked catcher Geovany Soto on four pitches and...

St. Louis Cardinals left fielder Jon Jay returned to St. Louis for further examination on his right shoulder strain. The Cardinals, who play the third game of a six-game road trip Sunday, decided to send Jay back after he experienced discomfort during batting practice Sunday morning. Jay originally suffered the injury by running into the outfield wall at Busch Stadium during last...

The Pirates will go for a huge series win against the mighty Cardinals today on a chilly day at PNC Park. Taking 2 of 3 from St. Louis would be great for this team, and would give the Bucs 5 wins in their last 7 games – all against tough teams.

On a dreary day in Pittsburgh, the Bucs will look to right the ship after an ugly loss last night and pick up a win against the hated Cardinals.
News and notes:
The forecast for tonight isn’t great, but as of now the rain is supposed to stop by the end of the afternoon...
A.J. Burnett pitched three-hit ball for seven innings in his injury-delayed Pittsburgh debut and the Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0 on Saturday night.
Burnett, who missed the first three weeks of the year while recovering from a fractured right orbital bone sustained during a bunting drill in spring training, walked two and struck out seven.
Joel Hanrahan worked out of...
The first three batters AJ Burnett faced as a Pirate were awfully never-wracking; Burnett began his Pirate career tonight with a walk, a single, and a second walk to load the bases up with nobody out. Given his struggles in his rehab starts and the way that he was called up with seemingly no notice instead of making a rehab start tonight, it sure seemed like Burnett just wasn'...
It's my understanding that the weather in Pittsburgh is a little cold today, but the Pirates and Cardinals should get their series finale in before the unseasonal snow hits the 'Burgh tonight and tomorrow. That I would, of course, love to see the Pirates steal a series win from St. Louis here, and they'll have to beat Kyle Lohse to do it this afternoon. I feel like no...
For some context, here's how much worse the Pirates are than everyone in the National League right now when it comes to hitting:

I wouldn’t say the Bucco bats came alive yesterday, but offensively one really good thing happened. Pedro Alvarez had two hits. Not only that he was basically robbed of another hit by a great diving play. I think it’s time to just move him up in the order. I mean he might not be hitting [...]
