New York Yankees 3 — Detroit Tigers 4

Omir Santos hit it deep enough to walk-off in tonight’s 4-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers.

The Yankees struggles with runners in scoring position continued as they went 1 for 12 in the best opportunities to score. With runners on 2nd & 3rd and just 1 out, Curtis Granderson was struck out with a questionable strike zone and Alex Rodriguez popped out to end the opportunity. With the Yankees trailing by 1, Tigers closer Jose Valverde had a poor outing as a pair of hit batters, walks, and a trio of stolen bases allowed the game-tying run to score without the benefit of a hit.

Hiroki Kuroda and the Yankees pitching were a victim of Miguel Cabrera. Kuroda went 7 innings and gave up just 2 runs, including one of Cabrera’s two deep home runs of the night. The lack of offense diminishes the quality outings of the Yankees starting pitchers. Cory Wade came in to follow Kuroda’s solid start but surrendered the other home run by Miguel Cabrera that went deep into center field as well. After the Yankees tied the game, the Yankees turned to David Phelps to keep the game tied in the 9th inning but consecutive singles ended his outing early. Boone Logan took over and after loading the bases with an intentional walk, catcher Omir Santos hit a deep fly to right to end tonight’s game.

Win – Jose Valverde (3-1)

Loss – David Phelps (1-2)
