Pirates (35-25) at Cubs (24-33) 2:20 PM–Wrigley Field, Chicago MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT, WGN After a day with lots of draft talk but no actual Bucco baseball,we are back to the grind today as the Bucs head to Wrigley Field for the first time this season. The off day certainly came at a good time for the Pirates, who have suffered their worst stretch since the first six games of the season. Hopefully a series against the Cubs will end that – the Bucs swept them at PNC recently, but they’ll still need to get the bats going. The Cubs still boast some very good pitching and have a dead even zero run differential despite being nine games below .500, so again, this won’t be an easy series – especially on the road. The game is a classic Wrigley afternoon start (2:20), and it is on WGN so some out of town fans may be able to watch. Today’s starters… Francisco Liriano (3-2, 2.17) vs. Travis Wood (5-3, 2.75) Liriano has been brilliant for the Bucs outside of his start in Detroit. His last outing, a loss to the Reds at PNC Park, was spectacular. The one run he gave up was a result of two infield hits and a bad call, and he struck out 11 (and seven in a row at one point), thoroughly dominating a good lineup. The Pirates could use more innings out of him, but he took care of that last time he faced the Cubs – seven shutout innings in a 1-0 Bucs win. Wood, a lefty, has been excellent this season and threw six shutout innings (one hit) against the Bucs in April. He has been a very big bright spot for the Cubs this season and even made an impact with his bat in his last start, crushing a grand slam against the White Sox. He hasn’t started since May 30th so he will be working on some extra rest this afternoon. Bucs vs. Wood Cubs vs. Liriano
