Gio Gonzalez returned to form Thursday night, holding the potent Reds offense to only one hit and one earned run. On the West Coast, the Angels continue to struggle, getting shutout by the Mariners. Kyle Seager extended his hitting streak to fourteen games.  Pirates 6 v Phillies 4: Gaby Sanchez notched a home run and three RBI, while Garret Jones swatted a double. Cliff Lee pitched seven innings, striking out seven, but gave up ten hits and got caught stealing. Domonic Brown hit two doubles for the Phillies (Pittsburgh won the series 3-1).Royals 8 v Tigers 3: Alex Gordon added an insurance grand slam to ensure a Royals win in extra innings. Justin Verlander only gave up one earned run over seven innings, but left the game with cracked skin on his right thumb. Bruce Rondon gave up the tying run in the 8th inning and Phil Coke suffered the loss in the 10th (The series split 1-1).Dodgers 3 v Mets 2: Hyun-Jin Ryu continued to improve, pitching seven strong innings, giving up three hits, walking three, and striking out 8. Brandon League gave up one run but managed to record his 6th save. Ike Davis hit his 4thhome run for the Mets (Los Angeles won the Series 2-1).Astros 2 v Red Sox 7: Clay Buchholz struck out ten batters in 7.2 IP. Davod Ortiz homered again and Dustin Pedroia stole his 5th base. Chris Carter and Marwin Gonzalez hit doubles for the Astros (Boston leads the series 1-0).Blue Jays 3 v Yankees 5: Hiroki Kuroda threw a quality start, while Mark Buehrle continued to struggle.  Robinson Cano, Vernon Wells, and Francisco Cervelli homered for the Bronx Bombers. Brett Lawrie and Edwin Encarnacion homered for the Jays. Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to earn his 7th save  (New York leads the series 1-0).Reds 1 v Nationals 8: Gio Gonzalez rebounded pitching eight strong innings, yielding only one hit and two walks. Gio retired 11 straight batters before Joey Votto homered in the 4th. Denard Span added three RBI and a triple. Bryce Harper and Danny Espinosa homered as well (Washington leads the series 1-0).Cubs 4 v Marlins 3: Steve Cishek gave up the go-ahead run in the ninth and Carlos Marmol earned another ugly save. Nate Schierholtz stayed strong hitting a double and a home run. Juan Pierre stole two bases for the Marlins (Chicago leads the series 1-0).Rays 2 v White Sox 5: Chris Sale struck out seven over seven innings to earn his second win. Jeremy Hellickson gave up five earned runs over six innings. Adam Dunn hit a two run home run and Addison Reed earned his 7th save. Jose Lobaton hit his first home run for the Rays (Chicago leads the series 1-0).Rangers 2 v Twins 1: Nick Tepesch continues to pitch well for the Rangers, giving up five hits and one earned run over 6.2 innings. Joe Nathan allowed one hit and struck out one to notch his seventh save. Adrian Beltre, Elvis Andrus, and Ian Kinsler hit doubles for the Rangers and Josh Willingham hit a home run for the Twins (Texas leads the series 1-0).Rockies 2 v Diamondbacks 3: Trevor Cahill gave up zero earned runs over five innings and JJ Putz returned in the 9th to earn his fourth save. Jorge De La Rosa pitched six innings and gave up two earned runs. Paul Goldschmidt hit his fifth home run for the Diamondbacks (Arizona leads the series 1-0).Orioles v Athletics: Jarrod Parker was hammered again, yielding six earned runs over 5.1 innings. Jason Hammel pitched six innings and gave up zero earned runs on three hits and two walks. Chris Davis hit his 8th home run and Nolan Reimold, Adam Jones, and Nate McLouth all added doubles (Baltimore leads the series 1-0).Angels 0 v Mariners 6: Three Seattle pitchers shut-out the Angels. Brandon Mauerer earned the win by striking out six batters over 6.1 innings. Kyle Seager stayed hot by hitting his 3rd home run of the season (Seattle leads the series 1-0).
