Alex Gordon is getting hits in bunches.

The Kansas City left fielder doubled in first two at-bats off Justin Verlander on Monday night in the Royals' 9-8 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

It was Gordon's fifth consecutive multi-hit game.

Gordon went 8-for-17 with six RBI in the four-game series at Boston that ended Monday, collecting two hits in each game. For the seven-game trip to Tampa Bay and Fenway Park, Gordon hit .407 (11-for-27) with eight RBI, three doubles, three walks and two runs.

"I'm happy with Gordon's production in the three spot," manager Ned Yost said. "He's swinging the bat real well, driving in more runs, having the opportunity to drive in more runs.

"Gordon hit right at a .400 clip the whole road trip against some of the best pitching in the American League. I'm pretty pleased with what he's doing out of the three spot so far."

Gordon tops the majors with 44 doubles, one more than Aramis Ramirez of the Brewers. The Royals left fielder has 49 multi-hit games.

Gordon is hitting .339 (100-for-295) with 27 doubles in his past 70 games.
