In the bottom of the sixth inning in Thursday's Dodgers-Padres game, Los Angeles starter Zack Greinke hit San Diego left fielder Carlos Quentin in the left arm. Quentin rushed the mound to tussle with Greinke, and both benches cleared in our first brawl of the young 2013 season. Both bullpens also  emptied and poured onto the field to join the fray. Greinke appeared to hurt his shoulder during the scuffle, and while he would end up listed as "ejected", it's unlikely that he would have been able to continue on the mound regardless. Then, all was calmed by the umpiring crew and Quentin and Greinke both left the field...only for everything to boil over once again. Jerry Hairston Jr sprinted out of the Dodgers dugout towards the Padres dugout, and the benches cleared and bullpens emptied once again. Matt Kemp's temper hit a boiling part after having a pitch thrown over his head earlier in the game. Vin Scully also had one of the most classic lines of his life, by saying "it's fertilizer", to describe Kemp's quotes while calling out the Padres. Things calmed down for a second time as the umpires conferenced, and they finalized the four ejections: Greinke, Quentin, Kemp, and Hairston, and play got back underway. The first basebrawl of the year always puts a hop in your step, doesn't it? [follow]
