The October 30th, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including Angels exploring trades of Haren and Santana, Trout and Wilson Gold Glove finalists, Angels 12-1 odds to win 2013 World Series and Player of the Year and much more... The Story: The Angels are exploring trades for Dan Haren and Ervin Santana before their option decisions are due. The Monkey Says: This is as sure a sign as anything that neither will have their options picked up nor be asked to re-sign.  Knowing that, other teams aren't likely to offer very much for either player, so the Angels would probably do well just to get a fringe prospect and avoid paying the buyout money on either player.  I doubt anything happens with either player, but if a deal is going to happen, it will probably be Haren getting moved. The Story: Mike Trout and C.J. Wilson were named finalists for Gold Glove awards. The Monkey Says: Trout was a no-brainer and the odds-on favorite to take home the award in center.  Wilson is a bit surprising.  He's a fine fielder, but I think he should be excluded from Gold Glove consideration until he finally learns to stop fielding comebackers with his pitching hand. The Story: The Angels are being given 12-to-1 odds to win the 2013 World Series. The Monkey Says: The TIgers have the best odds, which I find surprising because they actually struggled to get rolling this regular season.  They are getting Victor Martinez back, but they also need to rebuild thei bullpen and re-sign or replace Anibal Sanchez.  Of course, Vegas odds are totally meaningless and destined to change dramatically once free agency begins. The Story: Zack Greinke could get the biggest contract for a right-handed starter ever. The Monkey Says: That's kind of crazy.  I mean, Greinke is very good, but he definitely isn't the best right-handed starter in baseball.  In fact, he may not even be in the top five.  Of course, none of the guys above him have hit the open market which is a proven path to getting wildly overpaid. The Story: Jerome Williams is the Angels' only likely non-tender candidate. The Monkey Says: I'm slightly surprised that Callaspo didn't get a mention on the list.  With his poor offensive season, one would think the Halos would at least think about whether or not they want to pay him over $4 million.  The lack of replacement options is the clear driving force behind keeping him, but I don't think it is a 100% probability that he gets tendered.  As for Williams, he just isn't worth anything more than the league minimum. The Story: The Angels' biggest off-season decision is how to go about reconstructing their rotation. The Monkey Says: Kind of hard to believe that this is the case when you look back at how people were talking about the rotation before the season.  That being said, I don't think the decisions are that hard if Greinke re-signs.  Weaver, Wilson and Richards are locks, so, assuming Greinke comes back, they just have one back-end spot to fill, which really isn't that intriguing.  Now, if Greinke walks, all bets are off for how the two open spots are filled. The Story: Zack Greinke is one of the 5 most interesting free agents. The Monkey Says: Is he really that interesting?  Where he ends up is interesting, but I don't think Zack himself is really all that exciting a person.  Now, Jonny Gomes, that guy is interesting.  He isn't that great of a player, but I'll be damned if he doesn't seem worth chatting up over a few beers The Story: For some reason, Halo Hangout interviewed me. The Monkey Says: I think it was all part of their nefarious scheme to get me to spoil all the posts I have planned for the next two weeks.  Very clever, "Mike Hllywa." Yeah, like that's a real name.
