Found April 13, 2012 on Monkey with a Halo:

The April 13th, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including Scott Downs needs an MRI on his ankle, Albert Pujols not concerned about his slow start, Torii Hunter expected to find plenty of interest once he becomes a free agent and much more...

The Story: Scott Downs will undergo an MRI on his ankle even though X-rays revealed only a contusion.

The Monkey Says:  Downs is still on crutches and all the chatter seems to be certain that he is going to land on the disabled list.  That makes sense, because watching the injury in slo-mo reveals just how awful the injury was.

The Story: Albert Pujols is not concerned about his slow start.

The Monkey Says: After six games nobody should be concerned about anything, except for the Bullpen of Perpetual Sorrow.  If Pujols still is scuffling at the end of the month, only then should we even begin to start worrying about him and even then we might want to give the best hitter of our generation the benefit of the doubt.

The Story: Buster Olney expects Torii Hunter to have plenty of teams interested in him once he hits free agency.

The Monkey Says: I hope that's true, but I'm not sure it is.  Veteran outfielders had a hell of a time finding jobs this last off-season, though Torii can actually still play the field better than the likes of Johnny Damon and Raul Ibanez.  Olney is also assuming that Hunter is going to hit reasonably well this season, which is untrue thus far.

The Story: Peter Bourjos' inside-the-park homer versus Bengie Molina's triple.  Guess who was faster.

The Monkey Says: I forgot how hilarious it was to watch Bengie run.

The Story: An extensive list of songs that need to be banned from Angel Stadium and the songs that should replace them.

The Monkey Says: I love this.  I love this so much.  Too bad nobody in Angels stadium operations will pay any attention to it.

Pujols' contract ($240M) dwarfs average (.217)

Albert Pujols is learning that hitting a baseball is tougher when the number attached to your name has a dollar sign. After a weak opening week with the Los Angeles Angels, Pujols has a contract ($240 million) more imposing than his batting average (.217). He had no home runs and just two RBIs going into Friday's game at New York, the Yankees' season opener. After leaving...

Pujols, Angels struggling early this season

NEW YORK -- Six months from now, this matchup might still be the one that decides the American League championship. But right now, it's no contest. The Angels have lost three games in a row and five of seven this season. Their pitching has been erratic, their hitting lacks punch, and collectively, they're pressing. Even on the grand stage that is Yankee Stadium, they can...

Yanks dominate Angels in home opener

Albert Pujols is learning that hitting a baseball is tougher when the number attached to your name has a dollar sign. After a weak opening week with the Los Angeles Angels, he has a contract ($240 million) more imposing than his batting average (.222). He has two RBIs. Deuces wild, and not in a good way. ''I'm a human,'' he said. ''Sometimes you want...

GIFcap: Torii Hunter Almost Kills Himself Chasing A Ball

New York Yankees Fragrance Review, Pt 1: For Her

Opening Day at the Stadium is finally here! If you'll be at the game today, Albert Pujols and the Angels won't be the only things you'll see.  The Yankees will be unveiling their new fragrances: New York Yankees For Her and For Him.A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to get my hands on some samples of NYY For Her. The accompanying literature has a tag line of "New...

Yankees won Baltimore battle but war starts tomorrow vs. Halos

Albert Pujols (Photo credit: Wikipedia) The Yankees finally are back in New York after a road trip where they both got and did some sweeping. After starting the season losing three games to the Rays, the Yankees went into Baltimore and did the opposite against the Orioles. Two of the three wins went into extra innings, but the Yankees battled and now will open up at the Stadium...

Lucrative 1B contracts a risk for teams

I'm intrigued by the showdown this weekend between Albert Pujols, the Los Angeles Angels' $240 million first baseman, and Mark Teixeira, the New York Yankees' $180 million man. I doubt that any of us will be as fascinated in 2016, the final year of Teixeira's contract and fifth of Pujols' 10-year deal. Both could decline before then. Heck, both appear in decline...

Hunter Considering Multiple Options

Torii Hunter Jr., a 6-foot, 160-pound receiver out of Prosper, Texas, has plenty of offers. His decision is not necessarily where but what. Will it be football, baseball, or both? Only time will tell.

New look Cardinals clicking as they return home

So far, the St. Louis Cardinals are doing just fine without Albert Pujols. And they don't seem to miss Tony La Russa, either. The World Series champions are off to a nice start heading into Friday's home opener against the Chicago Cubs. During their impressive 5-2 start on the road under new manager Mike Matheny, the Cardinals have gotten plenty of clutch hitting and pitching...

MLB Week 1: Relax, it’s only been six games

Tim Lincecum’s ERA is hovering around 13.00, the Boston Red Sox have one win, and the St. Louis Cardinals are better without Albert Pujols?  One week into the season and the apocalypse has struck.  When the Braves started 0-4, their worst start since 1988, as a Braves fan I was close to throwing in the towel. But as fans do, we overreact.  Boston is still reeling from their...

Wilson beats Yankees for first time

C.J. Wilson beat the Yankees for the first time in his career, Albert Pujols and his teammates teed off and the Los Angeles Angels romped past New York 7-1 Saturday. Howie Kendrick, Chris Iannetta and Vernon Wells homered as the Angels ended their three-game skid and stopped New York's winning streak at four. Pujols got in the swing, too, after a quiet start with his new club...

Game Recap 4/12/12: The Bullpen of Perpetual Sorrow - Twins 10, Angels 9

In 2010, it was the Bullpen of Doom.  In 2011, it was the Blowpen.  In 2012, we are proud (and by proud, we mean emotionally crushed) to introduce the Bullpen of Perpetual Sorrow. Twins 10, Angels 9 Not even 24 hours after Mike Scioscia mishandled the Angel bullpen to cost the Halos a game, the relievers took matters into their own hands.  Hisanori Takahashi, who was actually...
