There is not a whole lot going on with the Houston Astros that is good these days. Management seems intent almost on making the team the living embodiment of the Charlie Sheen-led Cleveland Indians from the movie Major League. Show you skills that will one day require paying you and your shipped out of town! Good thing is the trade deadline is gone now and there is still some young talent left on the squad that can still make the game worth watching--like Jonathan Villar. The youngster has been a regular clepto. With this steal of home plate Tuesday night (a first for Houston since Craig Biggio did it back in 1989) the man has five steals in the last eight games! WATCH: Houston Astros rookie Jonathan Villar steals home easily on Orioles

While the Houston Astros are saddled with the worst record in major league baseball (5 games worse than next closest team), there are reasons to believe they are turning the corner.  Not the least of which was the recent call up of 22-year-old  IF Jonathan Villar, one of the prospects resulting from the multi-year sell-off of veterans (in this case Roy Oswalt). Villar flashed some...

The Steal Of Home

It is one of the lost plays in baseball.  Stealing home plate is a risky and dangerous move. Stealing home has been attempted by very few players at and accomplished by even less.  What we are talking about here is not the “stolen base” that one gets when he is the runner on third in a double steal.  It’s not the “stolen base” that a player gets when he advances during...
