Last time

The Red Sox and Braves last met on June 26-28, and the Sox came out on top with 2 wins and a series victory. Ortiz hit a home run in the series...that's about it.

This time

Laser Show: David Ortiz & Will Middlebrooks

David Ortiz is a mainstay in this category and will be for a while. Middlebrooks is heating up again and Bobby should have him in the lineup for all 3 games.
Pitch Around: Michael Bourn

I just threw a dart at a board with Braves players and I hit Michael Bourn. This is not an over-powering offense, but guys like Bourn will beat you with small-ball. He doesn't hit for much power (6 HR, .446 SLG%), but his .310 average and 18 stolen bases can be a problem for the Sox. If he does get on base, the Sox better give him plenty of attention to prevent steals.

Don't Fall Behind: Randall Delgado & Mike Minor

Cody Ross is the only guy in the lineup that has seen these guys in the past and his numbers are pretty good. For the other Sox batters, new pitchers always seem to be a challenge. They might need an at-bat or two to feel these guys out and that could put the Sox in a tough spot if they fall behind.

How we see it goin' down

Atlanta is a much better team than the Cubs and Marlins and will not make things easy for the Sox and they just won 2 against the Yankees. The Red Sox do have the pitching advantage in the series which will persuade me to make the prediction of a 2-win series for the Sox. Part of me wants to say the Sox will drop 2, but I have a lot of confidence in the starters in this series.

Jurrjens rediscovers touch in win over Red Sox

This is exactly what Jair Jurrjens needed. In turn, this is exactly what the Braves wanted to see from Jurrjens. And it would have been tough to find anyone who could have predicted this kind of a performance from a guy who spent the past eight weeks in minor league exile. I thought he would get rocked and rolled and be gone by the third inning. But there was Jurrjens on Friday...

Jon Lester Insists He's Healthy, Can't Explain Reasoning Behind Subpar String of Starts

BOSTON –– The wins just aren't piling up for Jon Lester this season. And frankly, the lefty couldn't explain the rationale behind the trend after Friday's 4-1 loss against the Braves. Despite logging quality starts in nine of his 15 starts this season, Lester only boasts a 4-5 record and 4.48 ERA. "I'm getting tired of the same old [expletive]," Lester...

Red Sox RHP Buchholz scratched from Sunday start

Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz will be skipped from his Sunday start against the Atlanta Braves due to an illness. Boston manager Bobby Valentine said Buchholz would likely be skipped and not pushed back. He said the right-hander was not with the team Saturday. After a slow start, Buchholz has been Boston's best starter, going 4-0 with a 2.40 ERA in June. He was 3-1 in...

Buchholz scratched from Sunday start

Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz will be skipped from his Sunday start against the Atlanta Braves due to an illness. Boston manager Bobby Valentine said Buchholz would likely be skipped and not pushed back. He said the right-hander was not with the team Saturday. After a slow start, Buchholz has been Boston's best starter, going 4-0 with a 2.40 ERA in June. He was 3-1 in...

Red Sox place Buchholz on 15-day DL

The Boston Red Sox have placed right-handed pitcher Clay Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to what manager Bobby Valentine called a "gastrointestinal issue." Valentine said Buchholz had gone to the hospital recently to deal with the problem and has not been with the team the past two days. Boston is planning to activate Aaron Cook from the 15-day DL to start...

Jurrjens sharp in return, Braves top Red Sox 4-1

Jair Jurrjens made an impressive return to the majors by limiting the Boston Red Sox to one run and three hits, leading the Atlanta Braves to a 4-1 win on Friday night. Jurrjens, an All-Star last season when he topped the Braves with 13 wins, worked 7 2-3 innings and left after allowing an RBI double by Daniel Nava that drove in Will Middlebrooks, who led off the eighth with a double...

Clay Buchholz Headed to Disabled List With Gastrointestinal Issue

A bug -- injury, flu or otherwise -- has bit the Red Sox. Clay Buchholz is the latest Red Sox pitcher to take some time off, as he is headed to the disabled list, NESN's Didier Morais reports. Buchholz was already scratched from Sunday's start against the Atlanta Braves due to illness, and he is being sidelined with a gastrointestinal issue, according to NESN's Tom Caron...

Red Sox Live Blog: Jon Lester Looks to Keep Sox Five-Game Streak Alive Against Braves

8 a.m. ET: Riding a five-game winning streak, the Red Sox (36-33) are looking to keep it going as they open up a series against the Braves. Boston will have Jon Lester, who is 4-4- with a 4.53 ERA, on the bump as he intends to collect his second straight win. Lester snapped a four-start winless streak on Saturday at Wrigley Field, striking out eight Cubs in 6 2/3 innings. In three...

Back from minors, Jurrjens pitches Braves past Red Sox

BOSTON -- Jair Jurrjens' return to the big leagues was a well-timed, splendid performance. Recalled from the minors to make his first major league start since late April, Jurrjens pitched a solid 7 2/3 innings, and the Atlanta Braves halted Boston's five-game winning streak Friday night with a 4-1 victory over the Red Sox. Jurrjens, an All-Star last season, missed all...

Streak Ends at 5 As Sox Lose 4-1

Jon Lester pitched well enough to lose at Fenway Friday evening as Atlanta topped the Red Sox 4-1 in the opener of their 3-game interleague series. Lester (pictured) was charged with 3 runs on 10 hits over 7 innings while the Boston offense was being held in check by Jair Jurrjens who scattered 3 hits over 7.1 innings. The lone Boston run came in the bottom of the 8th inning when...

Recap: Sox bats come to life in 8-4 victory

F'n Middlebrooks  (Photo by Winslow Townson/Getty Images) The Red Sox put some honest-to-goodness runs on the board and beat the Braves 8-4. Maybe Jair Jurrjens isn't so great after all.  Perhaps the Sox bats took last night off intentionally, storing up their energy and power to unleash it tonight.  Whatever the cause, it's just good to see some actual offense from...

Afternoon Red Sox Delight - 6/22

After sweeping the Miami Marlins, the Boston Red Sox will continue their eight-game home stanza with the final three games of interleague play. Tonight they'll welcome the Atlanta Braves to historic Fenway Park for the first game of a three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. and will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Braves...

Red Sox Begin Series with Braves

Tonight the Boston Red Sox will open a three game series with the Atlanta Braves, and close out interleague play for 2012. Tonight Franklin Morales will be on the mound for his second career start with Boston. They will face Jair Jurrjens tonight, who is off to a rough start. Morales was solid against the [...]

Marlins Look to Turn Tables on Red Sox

By The Miami Marlins, maybe the streakiest team in baseball this season, will be looking to reverse their recent fortunes, and those of us who have been backing them with our MLB picks, when they begin an interleague series with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park Tuesday night. Miami went 8-14 in April, then 21-8 in May, but is just 4-11 so far in June, after dropping...
