Phillies slugger Ryan Howard needs surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee and will miss at least six to eight weeks. Howard, the 2006 NL MVP, went on the disabled list Saturday. John Lannan gets revenge by defeating Nationals

John Lannan defeated the Washington Nationals on Monday night. With eight innings of work the 28-year-old led the Phillies to a 3-2 victory. Lannan went from 2011 Opening Day starter to minor leaguer to free agent this winter. While Lannan has pitched well against the Nationals in two starts this season he holds a 4.23 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP on the season overall.
