The most common complaint about the occasional bench-clearing brawl is that it exposes players to potential injuries. But as much as pushing, shoving, punching, kicking, biting or whatever can harm players, nothing is as dangerous or as bush league as a pitch intentionally thrown at someone’s head. The mere idea of a hard baseball traveling 90-plus mph toward a human body should be enough to make you say, “You know what? There’s a strong chance this guy ends up feeling some physical pain.” But when a pitch is thrown near someone’s head, the accompanying danger is so great that it often creates a sinking feeling within onlookers. That’s why throwing at someone’s head is nothing to mess around with, and it’s exactly why Ian Kennedy deserves a big punishment following Tuesday’s brawl between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. Plunking batters intentionally will remain part of the game. And that’s fine. But Kennedy’s pitch to Zack Greinke in the seventh inning of Tuesday’s heated affair went be

The Effects of Suspending Ian Kennedy for 10 Games

Major League Baseball handed down suspensions as a result of the Dodgers-Diamondbacks brawl on Tuesday night, and Ian Kennedy got the headline penalty, as he’ll be unable to pitch for 10 days after he decides to strategically drop his appeal. And, looking at the Diamondbacks schedule, that will almost certainly happen on Monday, and Kennedy will become the latest starting pitcher...

Suspensions doled out for MLB brawl

Tuesday's Diamondbacks-Dodgers brawl has resulted in eight player suspensions, with ten games for D-Backs starter Ian Kennedy being the most severe.

You Suck Ump! Ian Kennedy Needs Four Strikes To Strike Out Yasiel Puig

Last night Ian Kennedy of the Arizona Diamondbacks not only started a major brawl, but also needed 4 strikes to strikeout Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig. Just another example of how there is zero credibility in the world of Major League Baseball umpiring. Check out the video after the jump The post You Suck Ump! Ian Kennedy Needs Four Strikes To Strike Out Yasiel Puig appeared...

Dodgers rookie Puig hit by Arizona's Kennedy

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig has been hit by a pitch from Arizona's Ian Kennedy in the sixth inning. Puig went down after the ball glanced off his left shoulder and struck him in the face. The 22-year-old Cuban defector eventually sat up and was examined by a team trainer after a Spanish translator was summoned. Puig's nose was checked by the trainer and after...

D-Backs get big 12th, win series over Dodgers

Ross had a four hit night in the D-Backs win. (@bretthansen5, Twitter) The Diamondbacks continued their success in extra inning games and with Patrick Corbin on the mound as they were able to hold on for a 8-6 victory in 12 innings over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night. Like they did the night before, Arizona was able to get out to an early with a three-run fourth. Martin...

Kennedy, Hinske, Gibson suspended for brawl

Earlier Friday, Major League Baseball levied it’s punishments for those involved in the Diamondbacks-Dodgers brawl Tuesday night.

Kennedy, Mattingly, Gibson among 8 suspended

Arizona pitcher Ian Kennedy has been suspended for 10 games and Diamondbacks infielder Eric Hinske for five for their roles in a brawl this week, while managers Don Mattingly and Kirk Gibson have been given one-game bans. In all, eight members of the Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations were suspended Friday by Major League Baseball Senior Vice President Joe Garagiola...

Dodgers and DBacks brawl after pointless plunkings

Tuesday night, we got another dose of stupid, dangerous behavior from grown men who should know better. In the top of the fifth inning, Zack Greinke hit Cody Ross, and things increasingly spun out of control from there. In the bottom of the sixth, recent call up and phenom Yasiel Puig was hit in the face by Ian Kennedy. I’m not sure if it was intentional, and since hitting someone...

Dodgers-D-backs' punishment explained

You want answers, I've got answers, courtesy of sources familiar with the suspensions that baseball issued Friday for the Dodgers-Diamondbacks brawl. - Why only 10 games for Diamondbacks right-hander Ian Kennedy? Kennedy threw at Zack Greinke's head after the umpires issued warnings to both clubs. It's certainly fair to ask why Kennedy's penalty likely will amount...

D-backs put brawl behind them, prepare to battle Padres

After a day off to cool down from a heated series in L.A., the Diamondbacks arrive in San Diego for a weekend set with the Padres. But the D-backs have yet to feel the true effects of their brawl with the Dodgers on Tuesday. The D-backs could be without scheduled Sunday starter Ian Kennedy, who is expected to face suspension for throwing at Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke's head...

The Brawl at Chavez Ravine was stupid for multiple reasons, but hey, at least it was GIFtastic

Well, that escalated quickly. It all started when Yasiel Puig got hit in the face by a 92 mph Ian Kennedy fastball. Zack Greinke then followed that up the next inning by hitting Miguel Montero in the back. Now, personally, if I was Zack Greinke, I wouldn’t have hit Miguel Montero. I don’t really believe Ian Kennedy hit Yasiel Puig intentionally, and I don’t really believe...

Dodgers and Diamondbacks Exchange Blows

The Dodgers and Diamondbacks had some very bad blood on Tuesday night, and the young phenom Yaisel Puig was at the center of it. Yasiel Puig was hit in face by a fastball early in the game, and when Greinke was also hit by Ian Kennedy during the seventh inning frustrations boiled over. A Huge Brawl Between D-Backs & Dodgers
