John Lackey could be making a start for the Red Sox sooner rather than later. The right-hander made his first start in a rehab stint for Double-A Portland on Monday, pitching for the first time since suffering a strained bicep in his first start on April 6. Lackey threw 67 pitches, giving up three hits, striking out five batters and walking two. Red Sox manager John Farrell has said one start may be all that Lackey needs before he returns to the Red Sox rotation. Hear what Lackey had to say about his injury rehab in the video above.

Red Sox option Alfredo Aceves to minors

The Boston Red Sox optioned pitcher Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A on Wednesday. Aceves had struggled after being moved into the Red Sox rotation for an injured John Lackey. In 17 2/3 innings of work Aceves had a 8.66 ERA and a 2.09 WHIP. After his latest outing he claimed that the strike zone was too small. With the demotion of Aceves the Red Sox promoted catcher Ryan Lavarnway. Lavarnway’s...

Nike pulls Boston t-shirts

An anti-Red Sox shirt with an unfortunate phrase on it made for rival Yankee fans has been 'removed from distribution' in light of the tragedies in Boston.

Is this Mike Napoli sustainable?

Mike Napoli is so hot right now, but its certainly not sustainable If the 2013 Boston Red Sox season hadn’t already begun to look like a complete 180 degree spin from last year’s debacle, then Monday night’s comeback win should help convince the fans and the pundits even more. So far in 2013, the Boston Red Sox had survived thanks to their pitching and timely hitting. Down...

Red Sox Pitcher Alfredo Aceves Blames 13-0 Loss On Small Strike Zone

Of all the excuses…in all the universe…why? Red Sox former relief pitcher turned starter was crushed in Tuesday’s game vs the Oakland A’s in which he gave up 7 earned runs and the Sox eventually lost 13-0. Rain cut short the brutally one sided affair and afterwards Aceves offered up the following to explain his bad showing: “It’s hard to explain to you guys,…You...

Felix Doubront Shows Maturity on Mound in Second Win, Makes Corrections Mid-Inning (Video)

Felix Doubront picked up his second win of the season as the Red Sox topped the Athletics 6-9 on Monday night. Doubront pitched deep into the game, being replaced by Andrew Bailey in the 8th inning. Some of Doubront’s success stemmed from the fact that he was able to make corrections to his pitching mid-inning, an ability he said came with increased maturity this season. Hear what...

Shane Victorino Returns to Lineup As Red Sox Host A’s Team Full of Familiar Faces

A back injury kept Shane Victorino on the bench for both ends of the Red Sox’ doubleheader against Kansas City on Sunday, but the Flyin’ Hawaiian will be back in his regular spot in right field when the Oakland A’s come to town Monday night. After shaking up the batting order a bit to accommodate for a long day of baseball, a sense of normalcy returns to the Boston lineup for...

Daniel Bard Still Has Tools to Be Effective as Reliver Returns to Boston From Double-A (Video)

By now, Daniel Bard‘s struggles in 2012 have been well documented. Except now, after starting the 2013 campaign in Double-A Portland, has finally come back to the big club, and is back in his familiar...

A’s Pound Boston Red Sox 13-0 To End Losing Streak

It was a dark and stormy night, but this is no horror story… At least not for the Oakland A’s it wasn’t. The A’s snapped their four-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 13-0 pounding of the Boston Red Sox in a game that was called due to rain in the seventh inning. Oakland jumped on the board in the third inning and pushed six runs across the plate in the top half of the...

Four Bases: Athletics 6, Red Sox 9

The Red Sox resilience struck again after being swept in yesterday’s double header against the Kansas City Royals. The Oakland Athletics got down early thanks to a Mike Napoli grand salami, and the bullpen was able to (somehow) conjure just enough to ward off the A’s counter punch. Here are the four bases: First Base: Mike Napoli offense has turned eyes, especially on his fourth...
