The Los Angeles Dodgers had everything going for them on Friday night with the team’s best pitcher, Clayton Kershaw, on the mound, a five game winning streak, and winners in 16 of the last 19 games. The Colorado Rockies got a strong start from Juan Nicasio who out-dueled Kershaw for a 3-0 victory. As the old saying goes in baseball, if you’re going to beat a great starting pitcher you have to get to them early. This was certainly the case on Friday as the Rockies jumped on Kershaw for three singles in the first inning. In the inning a Troy Tulowitzki sac fly and a Wilin Rosario single would bring home two runs giving the Rockies the early lead. The next 18 of 22 batters would be retired by Kershaw as he only yielded three more hits and one more run the rest of the way in seven innings. The Dodgers offense never got going all night and didn’t have more than one runner in any inning. Nicasio pitched well in seven innings not allowing a runner past second base. With the loss and an Arizona Diamondbacks win, the Dodgers are now 2.5 games back guaranteeing that they will not be in first place before the All-Star break. Zack Greinke will try to start a new winning streak Saturday night against Tyler Chatwood. WP: Juan Nicasio (5-4) LP: Clayton Kershaw (8-6) S: Rafael Betancourt (14) Notes: Yasiel Puig left the game for the second straight night with the sore hip. The Dodgers said it is precautionary.Tweet

With the Major League Baseball season more than half over, it's time to unveil my midseason Top 25 Dodgers' prospect list. There are some new faces, some young faces (Julio Urias, right) and some players who have broken out. There are also some who have fallen from their preseason rank. There wasn't as much an infusion of talent as there was in last year's midseason...

The Misperception of Yasiel Puig

If you’ve followed the 36 game career of Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig to this point you would know he has been a lightning rod for opinion. The view of Puig’s style of play and the way he has carried himself as a professional from outside of Los Angeles has had the perception that he is immature and arrogant. The arrogant part may very well be mistaken for overconfidence...

It's a good thing Puig didn't make it

Despite my initial support for Yasiel Puig, I’ve come to believe that him not making the All-Star team is a good thing.

Carlos Gonzalez withdraws from Home Run Derby, replaced by Pedro Alvarez

In case you missed it yesterday, David Wright's National League Home Run Derby team got shaken up a little bit.  Carlos Gonzalez, the superstar outfielder for the Colorado Rockies, was removed from the team and replaced by Pedro Alvarez of the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Gonzalez is battling a finger problem and didn't want to take on any additional risks. Gonzalez rejoined...

Yasiel Puig, the Non-All-Star

I don’t often write these sort of unfocused think-pieces. (Well, I happen to think that I don’t, but many of my commenters undoubtedly disagree.) Anyway, I’m thinking about Yasiel Puig today. After an impressive, intensely hyped first month, the Dodger wunderkind lost to Freddie Freeman in the fans’ vote for the All-Star Game. (Of course, with injury replacements and so on...
