Last night's wacky 9-7 win must have exhausted the Phillies, as well the Marlins. On a travel day, this evening's game got underway at 4:05, so the two teams had to battle some nasty shadows. Unfortunately for the Fish, they also had to battle Cliff Lee.
Let's skip ahead to the sixth inning with the score still at 0-0. Josh Johnson had not given up a hit through the first five, and Cliff Lee had been absolutely stunning, as always. Cliff landed in a pickle when Carlos Lee singled, bringing home Donovan Solano. John Mayberry's throw home was a bit off-line, so Solano scored easily. 1-0 Marlins.
But, the Phillies wouldn't go down without a bit of a fight. In the bottom of the inning, Jimmy Rollins singled through the hole into right for the first hit of the afternoon against Johnson. Later in the inning, Rollins came around to score on a single from Mayberry. Tied ballgame.
After seven brilliant innings, Cliff Lee's afternoon was complete. He allowed one...

The problem with a Wild Card race is, and particularly with the Phillies pursuit of a wild card spot right now, is that you have to count on so many things to happen. Most importantly you have to win. Then you have to count on other teams that you’re not playing to lose.
Everyone held up their end of the bargain last night, and the Philadelphia Phillies are suddenly 4 games out...
It has been tough listening to Phillies telecast this week as Tom McCarthy and Chris Wheeler went on and on about the Phillies being in the wild-card race. That’s a sign this team is playing for something when they go on and on. It’s self-serving, but whatever.
It’s great the Phillies are playing meaningful games in September. They made this month interesting by being three...
The Phils win their sixth straight game as they finally reach the .500 mark as they hang on to defeat the Marlins, 9-7.
The Phils took the lead in the first as, with the bases loaded, via singles by Jimmy Rollins and Juan Pierre, with Rollins stopping at second base, and a walk by Chase Utley, with both runners moving up a base, and with nobody out, Ryan Howard hits into a double...
Carlos Ruiz scored in the first half to give Guatemala a 1-0 win over Antigua and Barbuda in CONCACAF qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.
Ruiz rifled a shot into the back of the net in the 26th minute to give Guatemala the victory and all but eliminate Antigua from contention.
Guatemala now shares the Group A lead with Jamaica ahead of its match against the United States later Tuesday...

The Phillies offense bailed-out a good-but-not-great effort by Roy Halladay and a near-meltdown in the 55 minute seventh inning to win 9-7, winning their sixth in a row, and reaching the .500 mark for the first time since June 4. Big stops by B.J. Rosenberg and Phillippe Aumont powered the Phils out...
Philadelphia, Pa – The Phillies beat Miami 9-7 and now at .500. They are the hottest team in baseball winning 10 of their last 12 games. The Phillies find themselves 4.5 games out a wild-card spot with 20 games left. This poses the question will the band-wagon fans that turned their backs on the Phillies do a one-eighty and come back?
If the Phillies keep winning then the...
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Jimmy Rollins homered and drove in three runs and Roy Halladay won again as the streaking Philadelphia Phillies outslugged the Miami Marlins 9-7 on Tuesday night for their sixth straight win.
Despite allowing five runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings, Halladay (10-7) improved to 4-0 in his last five starts. The right-hander walked three and struck out six.
For one, brief, horrifying moment, a photographer probably had the terrifying vision of Austin Kearns’ bat going through his head going through his head. Sitting in the camera well alongside the third baseline during Monday’s Miami Marlins-Philadelphia Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park, the photographer in question had only a protective screen to thank for [...]
The Phillies are playing some exciting baseball right now, no doubt about that. Winning the wild card isn't too out of the question, but the Phillies are making it look more and more likely with the way they've been hitting the ball.
The Phils scored first tonight in the first inning. With the bases loaded, Ryan Howard hit into a double play which scored Jimmy Rollins...
Go ahead and start your road trip planning now. The Phillies have joined the rest of Major League Baseball in unveiling their 2013 schedule, which will commence in Atlanta on April 1, 2013. As previsouly reported, the Phillies will open their home schedule at Citizens Bank Park against the Kansas City Royals on April 5. This year's schedule will feature one inter-league series...
An improbable run by the Philadelphia Phillies has pulled them within three games of the second NL wild card after being on pace to miss the playoffs just a few months ago.
Helped by a favorable schedule, the Phillies will face a third straight division cellar dweller as they open a four-game series against the Houston Astros on Thursday night.
After looking like it was out of...
With a 35-21 record since the All-Star break, the Phillies have finally gotten over the .500 mark at 72-71. With 19 games left to play, they are a mere three games behind the Cardinals for the elusive second wild-card berth in the National League.
With Jimmy Rollins playing like a superhero, Kyle Kendrick pitching like a fourth ace, and the lineup and bullpen rounding into form...
The Phils are red hot. Last nights win was intense. Everyone
was on edge as they all wanted to keep the winning streak alive. At the top of
the sixth the score was stuck at 0-0.
Lee gave up a hit to Carlos Lee, which brought home Solano. The score
was now 1-0, Marlins.
