The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed catcher J.R. Towles to a minor league deal after the St. Louis Cardinals released him recently. Towles struggled at the Triple-A level in the Cardinals system, batting only .237 this season in 19 games. Playing in parts of five different seasons with the Houston Astros from 2007-2011, Towles batted a meager .187 in 428 at-bats. Towles will serve as organizational depth at the catcher position.
