via mlb.com Thursday night marked the last home game of the season for the Yankees.  It also marked the last time in the history of everything that Mariano Rivera will ever leave the Yankee Stadium mound.  With the Yankees trailing the Rays 4-0 with two outs in the ninth inning, Joe Girardi (presumably) sent out long-time teammates of Rivera, Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte, to the mound to take him out of the game. The three shared hugs, smiles and some tears as Rivera left the mound to chants and cheers.  He became a Yankee at age 25 and has been the best reliever in the history of the game ever since.  At age 43, he will finish his career with 652 saves, a 2.21 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. Truly one of the classiest guys to play in my generation, Rivera is the last player to wear #42 as he was grandfathered in when Major League Baseball retired it league-wide for Jackie Robinson.  Aside from the Yankees, bat makers will also suffer as there won’t be nearly the same amount of broken bats with Rivera’s
