Signed earlier in the day, Mark Reynolds delivered at the plate for the Yankees on Friday.
Reynolds, 30, had gone homeless over the final 22 games he spent with the Cleveland Indians. That was all put to the wayside as Reynolds hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat against Boston starter Felix Doubront.
Later in the game Reynolds added an RBI single.
While Reynolds may not hit a home run every night but the Yankees will obviously take what they can get at this point.
Alfonso Soriano, another mid season acquisition, was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in the game.
Even with their heroics the Yankees are currently six games out in the Wild Card race.

Following a rash of injuries and a poor performance in the standings to date, the New York Yankees are still not throwing in the towel. They understand they need help at both first base and third base (although Alex Rodriguez has come back and looks like he will stay for the rest of the year). To accommodate this need, the Yankees have signed recently released corner infielder...

Yesterday, August 17, 2013—a date which will live in infamy— the United Yankees of America formally ended its reign as a major power in the baseball world. From now on, the best thing that can happen is that we lose. Yes, lose. Today, tomorrow, all next week and all next month. Just lose. (Except on Mariano's Day.) There is no point to winning a game here and there. It won...

New York Yankees 10 — Boston Red Sox 3
A familiar hot bat and a newcomer back Pettitte in tonight’s 10-3 win over the Boston Red Sox.

‘If I’m going down, so are others’, seems to have been Alex Rodriguez’s frame of mind when he reportedly had his boys purchase documents implicating Brewers slugger Ryan Braun and Yankees teammate Francisco Cervelliand, then had them leaked after of a story came out in the Miami New Times about Rodriguez’s own PED misdeeds.
When asked if shortstop Derek Jeter will rejoin the New York Yankees' lineup by Sunday night, manager Joe Girardi told reporters -- including Kieran Darcy of ESPN New York -- that he "wouldn't think so." Alex Rodgriguez and Bud Selig aren’t the most trustworthy individuals, so who knows who is telling the truth, but it is in MLB’s best interest to make A-Rod look as bad as possible.
Someone is lying and honestly I don’t know who.
Alex Rodriguez on Friday strongly denied a report that he implicated fellow players, including New York Yankees teammate Francisco Cervelli, as...
The Retrieval Empire keeps churning. We have signed Mark Reynolds, who used to kill us, when he didn't strike out. Unfortunately, he fans enough to make Curtis Granderson resemble Bobby Richardson. It's beyond my imaginative capabilities to foresee Reynolds doing anything but homering or striking out - and not in equal measures. But we have reached the Bobby McGee definition...
Mark Reynolds, Alfonso Soriano and the rest of the Yankees got their hacks in Friday night, but if Red Sox fans had to pick any pitcher to come to the mound to halt Boston’s three-game losing streak (aside from a healthy Clay Buchholz), it would be John Lackey.
Despite having not recorded a win since July 12 and not faring all that well in his last outing against the Bronx Bombers...
Between today's Shame of the Week on Fox, CBS's attack on "60 Minutes," and the ESPN Schillingfest scheduled for Sunday night, it's obvious the popes have waited a long time for this weekend. The plan is for the Yankees to be humiliated, booed out of Boston, eliminated from all races, and ridiculed on the national stage. It should be the most enjoyable Yankee...
