MLB Injury News:
It was reported yesterday afternoon that the Miami Marlins
were nearing an agreement with free agent right-hander Jose Valverde on a
one-year contract. This report proved premature, but the former Detroit Tigers’
closer is negotiating with the Marlins, as well as other teams, according to
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
jose valverde is talking to a few teams, including the #marlins. no deal seems imminent.

Valverde spent the past three seasons as the Tigers’ closer.
After a solid opening campaign in 2010, Valverde converted all 49 of his save
opportunities during the 2011 regular season, earning him a trip to the
All-Star game and consideration for the American League Cy Young Award.
Unfortunately for Valverde, he was unable to keep up this
level of production last year. He finished the 2012 season with a 3.78 ERA and
ultimately lost his role as the team’s closer in the playoffs. Detroit elected
not to re-sign Valverde, and he hit the free agent market following the season.
At this point, the Marlins have internal candidates,
including Steve Cishek and Ryan Webb, to close next season. They could instead
opt to add a more experienced presence in Valverde.

Jose Valverde led the league in saves two years ago and finished fifth in Cy Young voting. Now he’s without a home, although it appears that is about to change.
Valverde is close to signing a one-year deal with the Marlins, according to ESPN.com’s Enrique Rojas.
Valverde, who is a three-time All-Star, has reached the 40-save plateau on three separate occasions, leading the league...
The Mets lack a reliable reliever, and although they have some younger talent who could potentially fill the void, virtually everyone in the bullpen is a question mark. Over the weekend, rumors arose that the Mets were thinking about pursuing the flamboyant closer, Jose Valverde. The Mets do desperately need an arm in the bullpen to add some depth, and to replace their current closer...
Facelifts around Miami usually are no big whoop, except when coming only a year after radical reconstruction.
Welcome to the 2013 Miami Marlins.
A new name, new stadium, new uniforms, new manager and several high-priced free agents resulted in nothing more than a second consecutive last-place finish in 2012.
So the Marlins opted to change strategy. They fired manager Ozzie Guillen...
Former Detroit Tigers closer Jose Valverde is on the verge of signing with the Miami Marlins according to Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com. However, Jon Heyman reports that Valverde is still talking with a number of teams, including the Marlins, and that nothing is imminent.
The Mets were reportedly pursuing Valverde as an option to try and replace Frank Francisco as the...
The Marlins traded away a bunch of their players. They didn’t trade away Giancarlo Stanton, though, so someone will hit some home runs in Miami. Will he be the only one? The ZiPs projections for the Marlins came out last week and they suggest he’ll really be the only power source in Miami this year. It even looks like he could be legendarily lonely.
Projecting on the team level...

It seems that Cishek’s tombstone is going to read Closer, July 14, 2012 – October 2, 2012. Few appear to believe in the skillset and, upon Jon Rauch signing with the Marlins, many thought Cishek would be Rauch’d quite quickly.
We’ll address the skillset first.
In 2011, he struck out roughly the same amount of batters as he did in 2012 but walked less...
Texas wide receiver Torii Hunter Jr. adds his name to the Notre Dame football recruiting list for 2013. You obviously recognize that name, as he’s the son of major-league baseball outfielder Torii Hunter, now with the Detroit Tigers and formerly with Minnesota Twins (1997-2007) and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2008-2012)
Hunter, Torii Jr. (WR, 6-0, 180, Prosper, Texas, Prosper...
Unlike other 2013 fantasy baseball rankings posts, I'm just gonna rank all of the closers in the format of every Closer Look I've done in the past. Unlike other Closer Looks, I put projections in. The setup men are in order in parentheses, and the relevant ones have projections, as well. Once Brian Wilson and Jose Valverde sign, I'll add them; neither are much more...
