Remember about 20 years ago, when Mat Latos was playing for the Padres & he signed those baseballs "I hate SF!"? Of course you do. Remember how Giants Nirvana (formerly Splashing Pumpkins) had issues with the #balls and my posts? Perhaps you do. Remember how him & I made a bet regarding the 2011 season series between the Padres and Giants? You definitely don't. With that said the Padres lost the series 6-12 that year. I like to hold up my end of the deal in bets. I pestered Giants Nirvana repeatedly to write his post, yet here we sit on August 13th 2012 and I have yet to have a post from him in my inbox. So instead I offered Big Bald Mark, brother of a famous Ghost and huge Giants fan to write something instead. He obliged and was given the blessing by Giants Nirvana to write the post for him. So without further ado, read how the native San Diegan as a young boy was repeatedly wooed by Padres players with free cookies, Garvey's good looks & star play...

Roads diverge for Mat Latos and Chris Young

Mat Latos and Chris Young were once teammates who were considered promising starters for the San Diego Padres. Latos seems to be fulfilling his potential with the Cincinnati Reds while the same can't be said for how Young is faring with the New York Mets. These right-handers will match up for the first time Tuesday night when the NL Central-leading Reds open a three-game set...

What You Need to Know: Wednesday, August 15 by Daniel Rathman

The Tuesday Takeaway Back on June 2, Matthew Pouliot mused on Hardball Talk about whether the Padres could already claim victory in the deal that sent Mat Latos to the Reds for Edinson Volquez, Yasmani Grandal, Yonder Alonso, and Brad Boxberger this past offseason. Over the past month and a half, Latos has done his best to balance the scale. The 24-year-old right-hander was asked...

Reds injury round-up

Last Game After taking a double shut-out into the ninth inning, Jay Bruce hit a walk-off 3-run home run to beat the Mets 0-3. Mat Latos totally kicked ass through 7.0 IP for the Reds’ fourth win in a row. Next Game Tomorrow the Reds continue the series with the Mets, and it could be an ugly one. R.A. Dickey (RHP, 15-3, 2.72 ERA) leads the charge for the Mets, and he’s been on...

PreGame: New York Mets (55-60) at Cincinnati Reds (69-46)

Mr. Red is the answer to the age-old question,“What would it look like if Mr. Met became a deranged sailor with a handlebar mustache?” Seeking the consistency that has eluded them for the entire second half, the Mets begin a six-game road trip that will pit them against two top-tier teams in Cincinnati tonight against the NL Central leading Reds. First pitch is scheduled for...

Game Preview: Mets @ Reds

The Mets travel tonight to start another road trip after a disappointing but not completely tragic home stand. They finished the home stand on a high note, beating the Braves 6-5 and surviving a potential ninth inning meltdown after a fantastic Niese performance. Chris Young will take on Mat Latos for the opener. Chris Young is 3-6 over 12 games and 68.1 innings with an ERA of 4...
