At the end of this season, Reds outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is scheduled to hit free agency. Choo has put up solid numbers this season and is expected to have many teams interested in signing him. The Chicago Cubs are reportedly going to show interest this offseason, but another team is expected to show interest.
"All indications" are that the New York Mets will pursue Shin-Soo Choo this offseason and are expected to be "very interested" in him, rival executives told Andy Martino of the New York Daily News.
Although the Mets are interested in Choo, they are not interested in entering a "crazy bidding war" for the 31-year old. If the Mets do in fact sign Choo, the Mets view him as a right fielder, and not as a center fielder.
Signing Choo would be a bold move for the Mets and it would show that they are serious about winning in the near future. On the season, Choo is hitting .291 with 20 home runs and 48 RBI's. Choo is a versatile defender, as he can play all three outfielders. Signing Choo would be smart for the Mets, but not at an outrageous price. There will be many more teams that will show interest in the 31-year old Choo as we get closer to the offseason.
