At the end of this season, Reds outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is scheduled to hit free agency. Choo has put up solid numbers this season and is expected to have many teams interested in signing him. The Chicago Cubs are reportedly going to show interest this offseason, but another team is expected to show interest. "All indications" are that the New York Mets will pursue Shin-Soo Choo this offseason and are expected to be "very interested" in him, rival executives told Andy Martino of the New York Daily News. Although the Mets are interested in Choo, they are not interested in entering a "crazy bidding war" for the 31-year old. If the Mets do in fact sign Choo, the Mets view him as a right fielder, and not as a center fielder. Signing Choo would be a bold move for the Mets and it would show that they are serious about winning in the near future. On the season, Choo is hitting .291 with 20 home runs and 48 RBI's. Choo is a versatile defender, as he can play all three outfielders. Signing Choo would be smart for the Mets, but not at an outrageous price. There will be many more teams that will show interest in the 31-year old Choo as we get closer to the offseason. Should the Mets give Justin Turner an extension?

Justin Turner has been a fan favorite in Queens since his crazy 20 RBI in May of 2011, and it was never doubted he would make the opening day roster two years in a row. he has definitely shown that he isn’t exactly consistent when he plays every day, but he will get it done on the bench. Every Mets fan can talk continuously about Turner and the confidence he brings every time...

Parnell Disk Surgery Update: Recovery Time Average Is Nine Months

As was reported yesterday, Mets closer Bobby Parnell will require surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York. Parnell, 29, has tried to avoid the procedure by resting for several weeks and he also received an epidural shot in his neck, but to no avail. Parnell, who is arbitration eligible after this season, was having the best season...

Is Terry Collins The Best Choice To Lead The Mets Going Forward?

I like Terry Collins. He’s feisty. He competes. He never cries over what he doesn’t have. He has high expectations for those under his command. Collins has been surprisingly adept at handling the New York media during some very difficult seasons, and, for the most part, seems to have maintained his player’s respect. In fact, the Terry Collins baseball story is quite compelling...

Reasons why this Reds team is so fun to watch

by: Izsak Rapp Staff Writer The 2013 Cincinnati Reds campaign is one of the most fun to watch in a long time. It is finally the last month of the season, and anything could still happen. So much has happened this season; big wins, walk offs, great plays, the list could go on. With the Reds currently only three games back in the National League Central division, it will...

Billy Hamilton Excites Us About Stolen Bases Again

Unlike nearly any other sport, an individual baseball game can be broken down into individual moments, isolated from some events during the game and connected with others.  On the offensive side of the game, two outcomes stand out above all others: home runs and stolen bases. This week the Cincinnati Reds called up Billy Hamilton to much fanfare.  Hamilton was Keith Law’s...

Mets updates: Bobby Parnell surgery, Matt Harvey has not met with Andrews

With the 2013 season winding down, here are some quick hits on the New York Mets.  The Mets are in fourth place and looking to build toward next season.  With a couple of good breaks, they can be competitive, but their pitching will not be the same without Matt Harvey.  They could need some additional bullpen help depending on how Bobby Parnell recovers from his injury.  Here...

Mets Victimized By Long Ball Again In 6-3 Loss To Nationals

With the Tragic Number at 2, the “Playoff Push” is in serious jeopardy… The Mets (64-79) lost to the Nationals (75-69) Tuesday night by a score of 6-3. Dillon Gee got the start for New York and quickly put himself in a hole, giving up a run in each of the first three innings, including a pair of home runs. The Mets started slowly against Washington’s Jordan Zimmermann, but...

Bobby Valentine Off Base In Criticism Of Yankees’ 9-11 Presence

Bobby Valentine was a loose cannon when he managed the New York Mets and not much has changed. VALENTINE: Off base in comments. Today, one that should be about reflection and remembrance of those lost their lives, do we really need Valentine to open old wounds and accentuate pettiness? That’s exactly what Valentine while speaking on WFAN, the soon to be ex-flagship station of the...

WFAN and Mets to divorce

Tuesday, reports leaked out that WFAN, the nation’s first all-sports radio station, would be carrying New York Yankees games in 2014, leaving the New York Mets to find a new flagship station for next season. While this came as a bit of a surprise to many, there is no need for anyone to be worried about the move to a new home. The Mets will still keep the stellar announcing duo...

Jay Bruce hits two home runs off Clayton Kershaw on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball

[Reds 3, Dodgers 2] That was it last night – that was the game I have been waiting for out of Jay Bruce since his debut back in May of 2008. There have been three homer games, home runs in the playoffs, and huge walk-off home runs. But last night was the most dominating showcase of Jay Bruce’s career. ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball has been where the entire baseball world pauses...

METS MOVE ON THE DIAL MAY BE SPOT ON

Why all the tumult about the Mets being replaced by the Highlanders on WFAN? This change of scene has ‘opportunity’ written all over it. WFAN was a bit of a revelation in 1987, when they introduced the all-sports radio format in the biggest market in the nation, but there’s been nothing ground-breaking ever since, especially as it pertains to Mets broadcasts, where little has...

9/11 Home Run from the Other Side

Here is a story I wrote for The Tablet newspaper of the Diocese of Brooklyn, N.Y. We will always remember Mike Piazza’s “Healing Power of a Swing,” but it turns out the Braves’ pitcher that surrendered the home run, Steve Karsay, grew up just 15 minutes from Shea Stadium. Here’s what Karsay had to say about that whole experience. Originally published in The Tablet newspaper...
