Major League Baseball handed out suspensions on Friday for Wednesday’s brawl between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. Let’s just say that the D-Backs are not pleased with the discipline. Diamondbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy received the harshest punishment, as he was suspended 10 games for throwing near Zack Greinke‘s head during the beanball war. In all, eight members of the two organizations were suspended, including Arizona’s Eric Hinske (five games), who claims to have been a peacemaker during the melee. “It’s not right. I don’t know what camera they were looking at,” Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero said of the suspensions. Montero was plunked by Greinke in the seventh inning after Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was hit by Kennedy. At that point, umpires warned both sides while the benches cleared. Things only got worse when Kennedy threw at Greinke in the bottom of the seventh inning, prompting a big rumble. Neither Montero nor Greinke were suspended, although both were fined. Montero can’t seem to wrap his head around why Greinke didn’t face a harsher punishment, though. “The last thing I wanted to do was get suspended. I know he’s a little chicken [expletive]. I didn’t want to fight,” Montero said of Greinke, according to FOXSports.com. Perhaps Montero didn’t want to fight. Those seem like some fighting words, however, so it should be interesting the next time these two teams hook up. Have a question for Ricky Doyle?
