The Bronx is burning with the raging fire that is Alex Rodriguez and his feud with his own team. With A-Rod in the crosshairs of MLB for his involvement in the Biogenesis-PED saga and the words "lifetime ban" being thrown around, it's a full three ring circus and it's just getting started. The strangest element in all this may be the relationship between A-Rod and the Yankees, which has the best chance of being solved by Maury Povich at this point. Check that, maybe Bill Cunningham.  Maybe calling it a "relationship" isn't even accurate anymore.  On Monday, the sports pope, Mike Francesa of all people, was caught in the middle of the latest drama thanks to a New Jersey doctor. To briefly set the scene - the Yankees shut down A-Rod thanks to a quad strain just as his return was imminent. Rodriguez than got a second opinion without team approval to Dr. Michael Gross. Gross studied the MRI and deemed A-Rod healthy, although he didn't examine him in person. Incredibly, Gross revealed all of this in an interview conveniently set up with Mike Francesa on WFAN with his patient's permission. It's not too often you see a doctor who gave a rogue second opinion go on a publicity tour with one of the most prominent sports talk hosts in the country, but here we are.  Here's the audio… Why is A-Rod's health and the will he-won't he drama this significant? The Yankees can reportedly collect at least 75% of the remaining money on Rodriguez's contract if he's injured and can't return to the lineup for a full season according to ESPN.  A-Rod and his people appear to now be on a media crusade to paint him as a victimized slugger whose bosses are preventing him from playing the game he loves. The Yankees have said the right things in public... well, except for Brian Cashman telling A-Rod to shut the f*ck up... and both sides have been involved in so many rumors of conspiracies, insurance schemes, injuries, comebacks, and setbacks that it's impossible to keep it all straight.  Oh, and to make it even better, Gross has evidently been reprimanded for not properly treating patients with steroids in an unrelated case (we think). And to think, we're only in Act I of The Fall of Alex Rodriguez.  Who knows where we go from here, but count me in for having a front row seat to watch it all crash and burn. [Audio via @WFANAudio]

A-Rod saga multi-layered, multi-lawyered

If you had to bet, which would you say Alex Rodriguez stands a better chance of doing? Returning to form as a healthy player for the New York Yankees, or avoiding a monstrous suspension from baseball? On both fronts, A-Rod appears to be trailing by five runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Really, the only question now is how each of his games will end. Is Rodriguez...

Source: Yanks plan A-Rod discipline

The New York Yankees intend to discipline Alex Rodriguez for seeking a second medical opinion on his injured leg without their permission, a person familiar with the team's deliberations said Thursday. The exact penalty had not yet been determined, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because no statements were authorized. A fine appeared...

Doctor who gave 2nd opinion on A-Rod now part of Biogenesis investigation

With friends like these Alex Rodriguez doesn’t need enemies — probably just more lawyers. Rodriguez managed to open a new door for doping investigators Wednesday when he put forward a New Jersey doctor to contradict the Yankees’ diagnosis of his quad injury; the doctor orthopedist Michael Gross of Hackensack University Medical Center was reprimanded in February for “failing...

Baseball’s problem: A-Rod is still the sports biggest story

Source: Streeter Lecka/Getty Images North America It has to say something about an athlete, or maybe more so a sport, that even when he is not playing he remains the story. Alex Rodriguez has not played a single major league game this season and yet he is in more headlines then anyone. Rodriguez made headlines with his conditioning program, his tweet that he was cleared, and the...

Alex Rodriguez could reportedly still face lifetime ban from baseball

It would be a shock at this point if New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez was not suspended for his alleged involvement with Tony Bosch’s Biogenesis clinic. The suspension is expected to come sometime within the next few weeks, but MLB fans are still wondering how strong of a statement Bud Selig is looking to [...]

Almost 9 Years Later, Red Sox Couldn’t be Happier A-Rod Deal Fell Through

It was December 2003, and the Red Sox had just lost the ALCS to the hated Yankees a couple months prior, but everything seemed to be going the Red Sox way. They had just traded for the best Shortstop in all of baseball, and once he worked out a restructured deal, he would come to Boston and a number 3 jersey with the name Rodriguez would be handed to him at a press conference. All...

Pete Rose Says Alex Rodriguez ‘Lacks Self-Confidence,’ Insists Third Baseman Isn’t Treated Fairly

Most current Major League Baseball players wouldn’t want to be caught dead associating with Pete Rose. So, it makes perfect sense that the all-time hit king is pretty chummy with Alex Rodriguez. Rose was in Cooperstown, N.Y., on Thursday — not at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, obviously, but at a memorabilia store a block away — and he spoke to USA Today on a number of...

Alex Rodriguez Doesn’t Trust The Yankees

Here we go again. Alex Rodriguez has come out of ‘hiding’ and his first stop was to WFAN where he was interviewed by Mike Francesa. Rodriguez called into the afternoon show to tell the world he’s ready and willing to play ASAP and that the only thing stopping him are the Yankees. Arod had a conference call with Yankees management  on Thursday, and they agreed to a plan...

Arod lied to Mike Francesa about filing a grievanc with the player's union: Joel Sherman

The Post's Joel Sherman writes, "We sat in the stands down the third base line at PNC Field in Moosic, Pa., on Sunday, and I told Alex Rodriguez something directly — not through intermediaries or sources or third parties — I have wanted to for a long time: "The shame is we will never know what your career would have been had you stayed clean. Would you have been...

Rays-Yankees Preview

Those who expected Alex Rodriguez to be in the lineup Friday night, including Rodriguez himself, will have to wait a bit longer - and possibly much, much longer. The New York Yankees have others on the way ready to help their struggling offense, though. With a deal reportedly in place to acquire Alfonso Soriano and Derek Jeter set to come off the disabled list shortly, New York...

A-Rod vs. the Yankees is now the best comedy of the summer

For most of June and July, I've been trying to find a TV series to enjoy. I know — I should just watch more baseball. It's always the best TV of the summer. But a 30-minute-to-one-hour breather here and there helps clear the mind. It's a palate cleanser. At least for me.  Dexter and Under the Dome haven't really done it for me; I gave up on those shows after...

MLB Biogenesis scandal: 3 reasons all players on list should have ruling soon

When the news that Ryan Braun would be suspended for 65-games by MLB for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal, many MLB fans were shocked to hear that Braun accepted the suspension without appeal. Now that it appears that Alex Rodriguez is next on the list and likely have the hammer laid down on him soon, it finally feels like Bud Selig is taking some action. But is he acting...

Arod's Doctor was fined by the State of New Jersey for...prescribing steroids without adequate, proper patient treatment

Increasingly demented fact checker extraordinaire Mike Francesa got Dr. Michael L. Gross, Chief of the Division of Sports Medicine and the Orthopedic Director of The Sports Medicine Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center (Knees and Shoulders expert), on the show to reveal his interpretation of the MRI that may or may not have ever been able to show that Alex Rodriguez...
