In Indianapolis tonight, Kris Johnson will try for his 11th straight quality start. He has been the Pirates Prospects Pitcher of the Month in the last two months and seems to be the early front runner for this month as well. Bradenton has a doubleheader today. AAA: Indianapolis (70-54) vs Columbus (59-64) 7:05pm Probable starter: Kris Johnson (10-4, 2.23) Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis was off yesterday Kris Johnson will make his 20th start of the season tonight. He has also pitched five times in relief. Johnson has made ten straight quality starts, always pitching better than the 6IP/3ER minimum. In his last five starts combined, he has allowed two runs over 35 innings. Johnson has pitched a total of 129.1 innings, allowing 108 hits, six homers and 37 walks. He has 90 strikeouts, a 1.83 GO/AO ratio and a .229 BAA. AA: Altoona (55-64) vs Portland (57-62) 7:00pm Probable starter: Casey Sadler (10-5, 3.19) Yesterday’s Result: Altoona was off yesterday Casey Sadler will make his 21st start of the season tonight. He has pitched three times since returning from a right knee contusion that kept him out for a month. In his last start, he went six innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks. In his previous game, Sadler threw six shutout innings. He has thrown a total of 113 innings, allowing 98 hits, 11 homers and 31 walks. He has 62 strikeouts, a 1.74 GO/AO ratio and a .237 BAA. Sadler faced Portland on 6/2, allowing four runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings. High-A: Bradenton (45-69 overall, 19-27 2nd half) vs Palm Beach (55-60) 5:00pm DH Probable starter: Adrian Sampson (4-6, 5.52) and TBD Yesterday’s Result: Charlotte 5, Bradenton 4 in 10 innings Adrian Sampson will start game one of the doubleheader. No starter has been named yet for the second game. Sampson will be making his 22nd start. He has also pitched once in relief. He has thrown a total of 117.1 innings, giving up 154 hits, 17 homers and 18 walks. Sampson has 75 strikeouts, a 1.08 GO/AO ratio and a .320 BAA. In his last start, he allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over five innings. He faced Palm Beach on 7/10, allowing three runs over six innings. Low-A: West Virginia (69-50 overall, 32-17 2nd half) vs Greensboro (54-62) 7:05pm Probable starter: TBD Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia was off yesterday West Virginia hasn’t named a starter yet for today. We will update this post when one is announced. The Power are in first place for the second half title with a 2.5 game lead over Hagerstown. They could also make the playoffs if Hagerstown wins the division, because the Suns were the first half champions. The Power would have to finish second overall for that to happen. Hickory is currently 2.5 games behind West Virginia in the overall standings. They are sending seven players to the All-Star game. Jamestown has the best record in the NYPL and they have a two game lead in their division over the Pirates old affiliate, State College. Rookie:  GCL Pirates (22-23) vs GCL Blue Jays (19-25) 12:00pm Probable Starter: Blake Taylor (0-1, 1.32) Yesterday’s Result: Blue Jays 2, Pirates 1 Blake Taylor will make his sixth start of the season. He has pitched 13.2 innings, allowing four hits, no homers and five walks. He has six strikeouts, a 2.09 GO/AO ratio and an .093 BAA. In his last start, he went 2.2 innings, allowing three runs(one earned) on one hit and two walks. Taylor faced the Blue Jays on 7/26 and threw three no-hit innings.
