O'Brien earned his third win of the season on Thursday night

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees

Scranton topped Durham on Thursday night by a score of 6-2 behind a strong offensive performance that saw the team compile eleven hits. Notably, Doug Bernier went 3-for-4 including a double and a run scored, and Colin Curtis was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Russell Branyan also continued his hot start at the AAA level with a 1-3 performance that included a pair of RBI. On the mound, Nelson Figueroa pitched six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out five. The victory moved Figueroa to 4-2 on the season.

AA: Trenton Thunder

Mikey O’Brien earned his third victory since being promoted to Trenton less than a month ago with a great performance for the Thunder last night. O’Brien went five innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out a pair. David Adams was responsible for bringing home three Thunder runs in the 5-1 victory. Even more impressively, Adams did so without recording a hit. Jose Pirela and Addison Maruszak were the others with RBIs. Damon Sublett, getting a start in left field, was the only player to produce a multi-hit game for Trenton.

High-A: Tampa Yankees

Tampa was rained out yet again on Thursday night.

Class A: Charleston RiverDogs

Bryan Mitchell struggled mightily last night, giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits while lasting just 3.1 innings. The outing set the RiverDogs back from the get-go, as Mitchell took his fourth loss of the season with Charleston falling to Hickory 7-3. Offensively, there were only a couple bright spots. Mason Williams went 2-for-5 on the day with a double and two runs scored. He also stole his 16th base of the season. Additionally, Gary Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Nick Swisher sings 'Call Me Maybe'

Nick Swisher was coerced into covering Carly Rae Jepsen’s song “Call Me Maybe”. Pretty much every sports team has covered this song. This should have stopped when the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders did their rendition of the song which was filled with hot chicks and was done professionally. UNC’s Women’s Lacrosse team did a decent cover with some hot chicks. These need to...

The New York Yankees are playing outstanding baseball right now, as the Bombers are finally drumming on all cylinders. Ex Man Utd GK van der Gouw visits Yankees for BP

Raimond van der Gouw got an up close look at a big league ballclub in his first time at the ballpark. The former Manchester United goalkeeper watched from the field as the Yankees took batting practice before they played the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night. ''I'm a sportsman, so I like to see a game,'' van der Gouw said. ''I'm really looking forward...

Bottom of the Ninth: New York, New York

New York Yankees: On Friday, Jon Heyman reported that Rafael Soriano will remain the closer, even after David Robertson returns from his oblique injury in a week or two. I was a little harsh in my assessment of Soriano two weeks ago, as his May K/BB was a solid 3.67, vastly superior to his awful 1.17 ratio in April. Soriano is both throwing more strikes and getting more swinging...

Yankees rough up Santana, Mets

NEW YORK -- Only a few innings in, the question for Johan Santana became not how many hits he would give up, but how many home runs. The buzz from Santana throwing the first no-hitter in New York Mets history last Friday ended with a thud Friday night in the Subway Series opener at Yankee Stadium. The New York Yankees slammed him back to reality in a 9-1 win as Robinson Cano...
