AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees

D.J. Mitchell looked good yesterday for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but not good enough to overcome a pure lack of offense as the Yankees fell 3-0. Mitchell allowed all three Toledo runs, though he allowed just five hits over six innings of work. He also struck out seven batters. Offensively, Brandon Laird and Kevin Russo both managed multi-hit games and five players had walks, but the Yankees weren’t able to scrap anything together to help support Mitchell.

AA: Trenton Thunder

It was a massacre at Waterfront Park, where Trenton beat up on Erie 11-0. Brett Marshall was lights out for the Thunder, going six shutout innings while allowing just six hits — and he needed just 73 pitches to get through them. As good as Marshall was, the offensive numbers put up today were even more impressive. Cody Johnson homered yet again, giving him 14 on the season now. Luke Murton also homered as every member of the Thunder starting line-up had at least one hit. Murton also led a group of David Adams, Abe Almonte, Corban Joseph, and Kevin Mahoney who all had multi-hit games.

High-A Tampa Yankees

It took 13 innings, but Clearwater managed to knock off the Tampa Yankees 10-9 yesterday. Yankees starter Sean Black got lit up to the tune of seven runs on nine hits in just four innings, but Tampa made it all the way back and was able to tie the game. In extras, Mark Montgomery threw two more hitless innings, and has all but locked up a promotion to Trenton in a couple of weeks. Russell Branyan continued his rehab stint with Tampa and went 3-for-5 with a 5th inning home run. After Branyan, it was Ramon Flores (4-7, run scored) and Kelvin Castro (3-5, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored) who had the biggest games offensively. Rob Segedin continued his streak of reaching base safely by working a walk.

Class A: Charleston RiverDogs

Gary Sanchez has officially taken to blasting South Atlantic League pitching. Just two games after going off for seven RBIs, Sanchez has gone 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI as Charleston beat up Greenville 13-2. Angelo Gumbs and Dante Bichette also homered for the RiverDogs. Tyler Austin, who is more than deserving of a promotion, continued his breakout season with a 2-for-4 performance that has him now hitting .327. Brett Gerritse pitched three solid innings in relief of Wilton Rodriguez to secure his first win of the season.
