Tigers ace Justin Verlander took home his second piece of heavy individual hardware this offseason today after being voted the American League's Most Value Player. Verlander, who was the unanimous Cy Young winner received 13 of 28 first place votes. He beat out Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury by earning 280 total points to Ellsbury's 242. Toronto's Jose Bautista finished third and the Yankees Curtis Granderson finished fourth

JV finished the season with a 24-5 record, 2.40 ERA and 250 strikeouts to earn the American League's pitching triple crown.

Verlander told "Sportscenter" through a phone interview that it was "a relief to get the phone call."

"Obviously, I want to say it's a dream come true, but winning the Cy Young was a dream come true. (The MVP) means so much, I couldn't have even dreamt of it."

Had the voters not voting JV the MVP this year, they pretty much would have been saying that pitchers aren't worthy of the award. It's a nice change of pace and Verlander was definitely the most worthy candidate in my book.
