Mlb-all-star-futures-game

If you follow baseball you know that a wave of youth is taking over the league. Included in this wave is phenom OF Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels. Mike Trout is a stud. I do believe he’s going to be the best player in Major League Baseball very shortly if he isn’t already…..

However, every “expert” in the game has declared Mike Trout the mid-season MVP of the American League… Jeff Passan, The ESPN experts, etc… All say Trout’s the man…

We respect the man, but Unathletic politely disagrees and here are 5 Reasons Why….

5.) To Say That Trout is Solely Responsible for the Angels Turnaround is Ridiculous

“When he walked into the Angels’ clubhouse April 28, they were 6-14, nine games behind Texas and tied for the second-worst record in baseball. Since that day, they own the BEST record in baseball (40-23), and if the postseason started tonight, they’d be a playoff team.” The team that signed Albert Pujols and CJ Wilson started slow. They also have the best pitcher in the American League, and a young star in Mark Trumbo. Did you think they were going to stink all season? Yeah Trout sparked ‘em, but the team was built to win games in the crappy AL West without him.

4.) Trout Leads the League in AVG. and SB.

First, I could score runs hitting in front of the likes of Pujols and Trumbo. Second, there are guys with Home Runs, RBIs, Runs, Avg. on better teams that I think should get the nod. Trout is going to have fantastic stats, but they aren’t the stats that save MOST VALUABLE….

3.) Is Defense Considered?

How much does defense count in MVP voting? If it factors in; I have little defense against Trout being the MVP because he’s a stud outfielder.. But, Cano is the best second baseman in the American League.. Trout’s not necessarily the best outfielder in the American League. Is Trout better than Adam Jones? Tough questions my friends…

2.) Josh Hamilton

Player A: .308 Avg., 54 Runs, 27 HRs, 75 RBIs, .380 OBP, .635 SLG., 1.016 OPS

Player B: .341 Avg., 57 Runs, 12 HRs, 40 RBIs, .397 OBP, .562 SLG., .959 OPS

One guy is on a first place team with a great lineup and mediocre pitching, the other guy is not on a first place team with a very good lineup and tremendous pitching…. Yawn

1.) Mike Trout is Terrific, but He’s Also New and Exciting

At the end of the day, we’re really splitting hairs. Trout is great, and I’m not saying Cano or Hamilton deserve the MVP more than Trout. I do believe that the fact he’s new and exciting is seducing these experts and they’re trying to be sexy with their MVP picks. I’ll be shocked if he actually wins it this season….

Trout's arrival kick-started Angels into contention

The Los Angeles Angels' first half featured an old double-play combo. "We've been, in the first half, like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," manager Mike Scioscia said Sunday. "We know the really poor start that we got off to. We also know the untapped potential that was in this team early. We're seeing it start to surface." The Texas Rangers -- with the...

Mark Trumbo & Mike Trout An Explosive Duo

By Christian Ilten - AngelsWin.com Contributor Trout, 20, leads the American League with a .341 (88-for-258) batting average and 26 steals for the Angels while Angels outfielder Mark Trumbo boasts a sick .306/.358/.608 slash line, with 22 Trumbombs and 57 runs batted in.  #44 made it to the second round tonight in the home run derby, his first of the slugger's bright...

Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout, New York Yankees' Robinson Cano Favored to Win AL MVP

Only two players in Major League Baseball history have won both the Rookie of the Year and MVP awards in the same season. Of course Boston fans know one of them: outfielder Fred Lynn in his memorable 1975 campaign. The other was Seattle’s Ichiro Suzuki in 2001. Current Los Angeles Angels rookie outfielder Mike Trout could make it a trio as he is now the 5-2 co-favorite at Bovada...

Trout highlights LA's All-Star Game showing

Mike Trout couldn't have enjoyed a better night for his first All-Star Game. The Angels rookie got a single off New York Mets knuckleballer RA Dickey, stole a base and caught a fly ball in left field. All in all, he couldn't have asked for anything more. Trout and teammates Jered Weaver and Mark Trumbo all got playing time Tuesday, as did Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw...

2012 Fantasy Baseball,  Rookie Report: First half awards go to...

Mike Trout (credits below) Here is a look at my mid season rookie award winners. Qualifications for batters were 100 AB's and pitchers 10+ games pitched. Start the debate ! C- Wilin Rosario (Colorado) 14 HR's in just 190 AB's. Projects into a 40+ full season number. 1B- Jordan Pacheco (Colorado). I like Rizzo here but he doesnt qualify under my parameters. Pacheco...

TOC Midseason Review: AL Rookie of the Year

The All-Star Break is upon us, and until game action starts up again on Friday, we're going to do a brief season in review of the 2012 MLB season thusfar. Our staff has voted on a variety of awards, and we're going to roll them out over the next four days. The AL Rookie of the Year award really isn't much of a race right now. In fact, our winner was unanimous....

Yankeetorial: At the half, let's enjoy the lead that we might not be seeing in future All-Star breaks

Used to be, a Bryce Harper blossomed in another market, and it was only a matter of time before he would become a Yankee. Old George always had hooks in the water - even if they snagged Steve Trout rather than a Mike Trout - and the baseball world always grimaced and awaited our inevitable signing. But remember: In the movie, when they capture King Kong, they don't bring...

NL Stars-AL Stars Preview

Bryce Harper remembered back to Oct. 27, when just 414 fans were at Scottsdale Stadium to watch his Scorpions play the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League. Down 7-5, Bryce Harper vowed to teammate Brandon Crawford to hit a game-winning home run. ''I'll drop a bomb and walk off the field, tell them we own this place,'' Harper said. ''I promise you...

MLB Midseason Awards

The first half of the baseball season has come and gone, and so we pour out some of our malt beverage and bow our heads in silence in honor of the eighty-five or so games that have passed for each team. Or we could just pick some mid-season awards. THE WHY-DID-THEY-WAIT-SO-LONG-TO-CALL-HIM-UP AWARD (ROOKIES) American League: Mike Trout – Los Angeles Angels National League: Bryce...

My Mid-Season Awards

Just an obligatory annual post while I'm obligatorily watching the All-Star Game: [platoonadvantage] American League MVP: Mike Trout It's worth noting that this is all a product of approximately the last three weeks: he's been very good (at least) since day one, but starting with his 4-for-4 game on June 19, Trout hit .389/.432/.634 to close out the first half. He...

The Obligatory MLB Mid-season Awards Post

The All-Star Game is tonight, and after it we’ll have a dearth of baseball to watch until Friday, so there really isn’t all that much for me to write about this week. As such, I’ll be deciding who’d win each of Major League Baseball’s most prestigious awards if they handed them out at the halfway point too. I know it’s what everybody else is doing, but the last thing...

Progress Report: Dishing Out the First Half Grades

Before the season, Bryan Doherty and I dished out awards and final standings based on player and team projections we felt were logical assumptions. Now that we both see how terribly wrong we both were, like most preseason projections in the history of preseason projections world wide, I can now step back and re-assess the MLB at the All Star Break. Like every season of every sports...
